Abalami the Mage

Abalami

Physical Description

Body Features

The great mage had an average build to compliment his height. He was an unimposing figure in life. His body was covered with dark hair, especially his chest and arms.

Facial Features

Abalami had a thick beard and bushy eyebrows. His forehead was squat and his nose long and thin.

Identifying Characteristics

Because eye colors other than shades of brown are rare in Opana, his identifying feature are his dark green eyes. He shares the trait with many of his family members.

Special abilities

Abalami was born what westerners call a Stormchanger - those who bend natural events to their will. For example, if a rockslide had threatened a nearby village, a Stormchanger can redirect the falling boulders away from the village. In the east, Stormchangers are called Mages. Along with every human in the world, Abalami has access to what westerners call fludism. He can use fluidism to augment his powers, i.e. strengthen defenses against an oncoming avalanche or sandstorm, set tinder alight to start a forest fire, etc. Mages study and practice both magic systems so they can use both to their fullest potential.

Apparel & Accessories

The early phase of his life was spent wearing simple robes and boots, typical Opani clothing. When he joined the Opani priesthood and the Mages, he took to wearing better clothing. While guiding the Opani kings, he quickly took to wearing colorful and supple fabrics and gold jewelry. Abalami was particularly fond of rings and the jeweled pendant of his order.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Under his unofficial leadership, Abalami guided the Opani king and the Alliance of Twelve to help destroy the oppressive Barturi Empire. These accomplishments were entirely of selflessness: the Barturi king had rejected his services. Also, the Barturi army had desecrated temples dedicated to their god, inspiring him to avenge them.

Character Prototype
Abalami is inspired by the wizard trope. The main inspiration is Bayaz from the First Law series. Bayaz is an egoistic, self-serving wizard who secretly controls a nation behind the scenes. He has no scruples about using others to achieve what he wants.
