King's Warrior

Qualifications: Prospective applicants must be a boy, Satri or Oramani ethnicity, and be from eighteen to twenty-three years old upon joining.   Requirements: Any Satri boy wishing to join the Twenty Thousand must pass the King’s Trials. A yearly occurrence, the Trials were open to all Satri men at least fifteen years old. Events include running, swimming, hand-to-hand combat, archery, and mock battles. The most promising men are selected to replace members of the Twenty Thousand who fell in battle or unable to fight. If there are not enough vacancies, the remainder stay in the reserves before a spot becomes available.   Appointment: After passing the King’s Trials, the young men were inducted into the ranks with an official ceremony. They offered sacrifices to the gods and pledged to protect the Munasimuna’s body or die in the attempt.   Duties: Their priority was to protect the imperial family and form the core of the Satri army.   Responsibilities: In addition to guard duty, they garrisoned and patrolled the Empire’s premier cities.   Benefits: When garrisoned, theKing’s Warriors While on campaign, they received superior rations and lodgings.   Equipment:In battle, they wear steel scale cuirasses over tunics and trousers, helmets and greaves, leather gauntlets, and carry thick, elliptical wooden shields rimmed and bossed with iron. Their dress is more lavish when guarding one of the Munasimuna’s several palaces or wherever he travels. The King’s Spears wear robes in green and indigo, while the King’s Shields wear rich yellow and red, and the King’s Companions wear saffron and white robes with purple hems.The King’s Warriors are known for their eclectic fighting styles and great skills with several weapons. Each man is equipped with a steel-tipped spear, a sword sword, a composite bow, and steel arrows. At the end of each spear is a counterbalance that resembles one of these fruits: apple, pear, peach, date, pomegranate, and lemon. While on active duty, each man used a spear with spherical counterbalance. By contrast, the spears have a fruit-shaped counterbalance crafted from gold or silver.
