Nabr Oasis
Geography
The Nabr Oasis, which is its Kavani name, is the largest inhabited oasis in The Great Southern Desert. Located halfway between the Kavana's shared borders with Yanela and Suyama, the is an integral part of the region's crisscrossing trade routes. The main pool, fed by an underground water source, forms a long, narrow, oval shape.
Natural Resources
The oasis' pools provide water sweeter than most in the known world. Enough water flows from underground to support a community hundreds strong and still provide enough surplus to sell water skins to passing travelers. The lack of water for miles around allows the Nabri charge as much gold as they desire for it, although the exact price varies according to the ethnicity and disposition of the prospective buyer. Fellow Kavani from tribes friendly with the Nabri pay the least, followed by Kavani the Nabri are indifferent toward, then non-Kavani merchant caravans, then other Kavani whom the Nabri despise.
Nabr Oasis is also known for growing particularly notable cultivars of figs and dates enjoyed by Kavani chieftains and by the Munasimuna alike in Satra. The figs have a deep purple rind and blood red flesh, while the dates are prized for their sweetness and large size - not to mention their yellow-gold coloration. More common figs and dates are grown here as well, along with peaches, citrus, olives, wheat, barley, onions, melons, and flax. Farmers manage three layers of vegetation: date palms occupy the highest tier, then other fruit trees, with cereals and vegetables filling the layer closest to the ground. Small herds of goats nibble on tufts of grass, but chicken is the most popular meat in Nabri cuisine because they require less water and fodder to raise them.
