A beloved Fairytale
When Noami was a little girl, before the death of her parents, her mother used to tell her a bedtime story. She told her many bedtime stories, but there was one in particular that was Noami's favourite. It was the tale of an ordinary girl who grew up to have grand adventures in space, and her mother made it up just for her.
Synopsis of the story
The story starts with a young girl visiting The Oracle on a pilgrimage with her parents. The Oracle gave the girl, Lucy, one of her very rare foretellings. She said the girl would visit the stars, and fly with dragons, have grand adventures, and save the galaxy. Lucy didn't see how this was possible , but her parents were troubled as The Oracle's foretellings, although rare, were always known to come true.
Many years passed and the foretelling was mostly forgotten about, then on Lucy's twentieth birthday, the impossible happened. In short, a dragon did indeed sweep down out of the sky and carry Lucy off, telling her that they had need of her, of her abilities. Lucy had no idea what they were talking about, but once she arrived at the Dragon's home planet, and underwent a special ritual, she discovered she did indeed have special abilities. Then began a series of grand adventures in which Lucy fought in great battles, made lifelong friends, and did eventually save the galaxy.
The Truth
Noami's mother didn't entirely make up the story, it was based on an experience she herself had had while pregnant with Noami. She had gone to a county fair and decided on a whim to visit the fortune teller who was there. She didn't have much faith in them, but since she had never actually been to one, thought she would see what it was like.
She had heard that they usually gave out quite standard fortunes, such as who you would marry, whether you would have good luck in your carreer, suffer some ill-fortune, that sort of stuff. As a result, she was rather shocked when the old man gave her a telling about her unborn child, saying that she was descended from old blood, had the heart of a Dragon and would travel the stars.
Noami's mother figured that the old man was just someone having fun with being a fortune teller at a fair, and that the whole thing was meant to be some kind of joke. However, she couldn't shake the old man's words from her mind even months later when she gave birth to Lucy. She decided that the "fortune telling" made a rather good story, so she turned it into a bedtime fairytale for her daughter.
This is a lovely article. I really like how I switch from it is a made up story to oh no it could actually be real. Wondering now if it will come true :)
