Blightlings

The Sanguine Swarm

Overview

Blightlings are creatures that emerge from the flood of divine essence that covers the planet during Blood Moons. While certain myths tell that these beings were once benign entities transformed by the malevolent energies of an ancient evil trapped within Inanis, others suggest that they are a cosmic decomposer— or perhaps simple scavengers— which feed off of the energies leaking from the dying moon.

Types of Blightlings

No one is really certain of how they first arrived on Inanis, but they have multiplied and evolved ever since. Each class of Blightling serves a specific purpose, forming a complex hierarchy within their Horde.

Alpha Blightlings: Towering and formidable, these are the leaders. Marked by glowing runes and a crown of horns, they exhibit dominance and advanced magical prowess.

Beta Blightlings: Slightly smaller than Alphas, Betas are the tactical leaders. They possess a robust, armored appearance, and smash through the opposition.   Gamma Blightlings: Agile creatures with thick scales protecting their weakest points, Gammas are the standard warrior fodder. They are adaptable, aggressive, and form the backbone of the Blightling combat forces.
Delta Blightlings: Canine in form, Deltas serve as scouts or spies. Their agility and enhanced sensory abilities make them ideal for reconnaissance and hunting.

Epsilon Blightlings: Ethereal and less physically imposing, Episolons specialize in magical abilities. They wield arcane powers, manipulating the environment around them to the benefit of the Horde.
Zeta Blightlings: The rarest class, Zetas have an amphibious design and a deep connection to the mystical forces of Inanis. They act as conduits— or perhaps priests— of the corruptive energies within the world. Zetas are hard to locate as they only emerge when the world is flooded, swimming through the blood.

Blightlings in Theory

Philosophers and scholars often theorize that there is perhaps an additional kind of Blightling. This being, though never seen, is theorized to be the central brain behind the Sanguine Swarm, delegating tasks to the Alphas, and is given the name Omega.   Though there is no evidence to substantiate the Omega's existence, the Blightlings are far too organized for such varying biologies for scholars to fully reject the Theory of the Omega.
