Valensra

"This title, Valensra? It has quite the humorous history." - Pasma Tash

Summary

The esteemed title of Valensra holds a deep-rooted significance in the lore of Teralt, as it is an incredibly influencial title to possess. As the leader of The Kastir, the Valensra is a valuable ally and a formidable foe. For this reason, most kingdoms of Teralt do their best to appease the Valensra, and by extension, the Kastir.

Origin

This title, steeped in a history of power, was originally derived from the surname of Castor Valensra, the legendary Father of Magic. After his ascension from human to god his followers, the Children of Castor, rechristened themselves the Kastir, which marked the beginning of the Valensra lineage.   Pasma Tash, the first to assume the Valensra title post-Castor, adopted this surname in a twisted homage— a subtle mockery wrapped in respect. This act of veiled contempt was Tash's way of spitting on what he viewed as Castor's poor leadership, a sarcastic nod to his "exemplary" governance.

Etymology

The etymology of the word "Valensra" traces back to the Morilanic language, merging "Valens" (meaning knowledge or wisdom) with "Ra" (signifying king, protector, or guardian). This fusion lends the title various interpretations, ranging from "Wise Guardian" to "Protector of Knowledge", or even "King of Knowledge". Pasma Tash favored the latter, seeing himself as the epitome of intelligence.

Holders of the Title

The title saw a brief transfer to another mage during Tash's absence on a quest for the elusive answer to aging. However, upon Tash's return, the title was reclaimed under mysterious circumstances following the sudden demise of the interim Valensra.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of a Valensra are multifaceted and crucial to the Kastir's functioning. They oversee the group's activities, set objectives, and ensure the proper education of prospective members. Additionally, the Valensra safeguards Castor's Vault, a repository of magic and secrets, accessible only under stringent conditions. After all, the powers contained within it are perilous, and only the most trusted members of the Kastir, and rarely, foreign dignitaries, are allowed entry. Though the second Valensra relinquished direct rule over Valens, the City of Knowledge— seeing it as an overextension of the Kastir's power— the title still wields significant influence within its domain, and the Valensra now serves as an advisor to the current leadership.

Conclusion

The Valensra is a title of immense prestige and power within the world of Teralt, embodying wisdom, guardianship, but harboring dark secrets.
