Drangese Humans

The Drangese people are an ethnicity of humanity originally hailing from the Southern desert region of Drang on the continent of Crestfall. The Drangese people are nomadic wanders, traversing up and down the length of the Jormund River in mobile houseboat communities and frequently lending their services as navigators and bodyguards.

Appearance

Drangese humans typically have dark skin and black hair which can be either straight or curly. Humans of Drangese descent commonly have dark-colored eyes such as brown or dark green, but lighter colors such as blue or even yellow are possible, albeit rare.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

The Drangese people speak their own language, aptly referred to as Drangese, though many Drangese humans speak a variety of other languages as well due to their frequent interactions with outsiders. Frequently-spoken languages among the Drangese people include Common, Dwarvish, and Halfling and even Gnoll.

Culture and cultural heritage

Due to a lack of arable land in the desert suitable for farming, the Drangese people developed a nomadic lifestyle, travelling in social groups usually consisting of 3-5 family units. Due to its size and abundance of fish and edible plants, the Jormund River was an important boon and focal point for the Drangese people, with caravans travelling up and down the length of the river in an annual cycle in order to follow schooling fish during their spawning migrations.   From this strategy, the Drangese people became adept at building and sailing watercraft; the transition from land-based caravans to water travel also had the added benefit of protection from the wandering gnoll clans, who also depended on the resources of the river and would frequently skirmish with the Drangese along its banks.

Common Etiquette rules

The people of Drang are famously known for their cultural values of altruism and hospitality, often offering their services as guides, ferrymen and bodyguards for outsiders who seek passage along the imposing Jormund River which the Drangese people call home. As part of their hospitality, outsiders traveling with a Drangese river caravan are treated as honorary family members for the duration of their travel; many caravans travel with a vacant houseboat reserved specifically for guests.   Payment for these services varies from one caravan to another; some Drangese caravans are self-sufficient enough to charge a pittance at most in exchange for their services as river guides. Other groups which specialize in more dangerous professions however, such as bodyguards or mercenaries, may expect more substantial compensation. Regardless of the expenses involved, it is customary among the Drangese to negotiate rates up-front to avoid conflicts over payment layer.

Common Dress code

The Drangese people traditionally dress in loose-fitting clothing designed to protect against the harsh sunlight and blowing sands of Drang's enviromnet. Drangese fashion norms favor bright colors made from rich dyes and pigments, with certain color combinations denoting members of specific family units or caravans.
