Tribunal
Tribunal, the Labyrinth of Law is one of the eight planes of existence that make up the Great Prism cosmology. Residing directly above its sister plane of Dolor, Tribunal is a plane of positive energy, and is believed to have once been the home of celestial beings referred to as "angels".
Characteristics
The plane of Tribunal is a vast expanse of golden, slow-rolling clouds floating in a syrup-colored sky. There is no "ground" in Tribunal; instead, directly below the plane of Tribunal is the fractured planetoid that composes the plane of Dolor. The unique proximity of these two planes implies a shared history, perhaps even the suggestion that they once composed a single plane that was somehow "split" in two; however, this is inconclusive and any suggestions regarding the relation of these two planes is merely speculation. While Tribunal has no ground in the conventional sense, its sky is populated with a number of floating islands which appear to be mechanical in nature: while the exterior of these islands contains earth, water and even plant life, standing on one allows a planar visitor to feel the vibrations and hear the mechanized whirring and turning of gears just below the surface. Tribunal is referred to as a "labyrinth" due to the fact that the islands that compose its surface are free-floating and not fixed to a single location, making attempts to map out the plane with conventional tools and techniques next to useless. However, one saving grace is that each island seem to adhere to a "pre-programmed" flight pattern, making it somewhat possible for an experienced traveler to predict the movement paths of these islands and navigate them accordingly. The largest of Tribunal's islands holds the ruined remains of an enormous, sprawling city, at the center of which lies "The Authority": a colossal, deactivated supercomputer of unknown means and origin. It has been hypothesized that the Authority was constructed by the angels that once occupied Tribunal, and at the height of their civilization may have been able to control the individual islands directly, moving them around the plane at the behest of the angels' whims.Inhabitants
It is believed that Tribunal once served as the home of powerful celestial beings known as angels; the evidence of their past civilization can be found in Tribunal's crumbling cities and floating, seemingly artificial islands. While the angels themselves can no longer be found in Tribunal, the plane is still occupied by many of their still-active constructs, robotic creatures which combine elements of the mechanical and the celestial. It is believed that these constructs were created to serve the angels in specialized roles, although to an outsider these roles might not always be obvious or apparent. In the absence of their creators, many of Tribunal's constructs have apparently struggled to adjust to the resulting lack of purpose: some have ceased working entirely, falling into complete disarray and decay, while other constructs continue to attempt to serve their intended purpose to the best of their ability, such as by guarding specific locations within Tribunal or performing the same tasks in a repeated fashion for centuries at a time. In addition to the constructs, Tribunal is also home to a variety of other celestial creatures, adapted to life on the plane's floating islands and its surrounding skies. Creatures such as hollyphants, coatls, and even sphinxes have been known to occupy parts of Tribunal, as well as the occasional metallic dragon.
