Wieglish Humans
Wieglish Humans are an ethnicity of humans hailing from the Western coast of Wiegland. The Wieglish humans have been known for generations as sailors, fishermen and seafarers, which is reflected in the chief deity of their faith: an ancient ocean-dwelling deity known as the Deep King.
Appearance
Wieglish humans often have tan or amber-colored skin, brown or gold eyes (though bright blue or green eyes are not unheard of) and either red or straw-blonde hair.Culture
Major language groups and dialects
The humans of Wiegland speak a native language known simply as Wieglish, a rich dialect full of colorful idioms, euphemisms and various subsets of colloquial slang. The languages of Common and Halfling are commonly employed as trade languages among the Wieglish people, the latter due to the Wieglish humans' proximity to their halfling neighbors to the East.
Common Dress code
Wieglish fashion typically places an emphasis on plain, utilitarian designs made to emphasize form over function. The exception to this rule can be found in the attire of the Sirens (see below): while each Siren's ceremonial dress is unique, common themes involve rich dyes in colors such as blue, turquoise and sea-foam green, as well as jewelry fashioned from pearls, seashells and specially-lacquered fish scales.
Some Sirens have been known to incorporate even bolder accessories into their ceremonial garb, such as shark teeth, petrified claws of various crustaceans, and so on. Traditionally, these more extravagant flourishes often hold some specific spiritual or sentimental value to the Siren herself, and are often displayed as a shorthand for her personal history.
Common Customs, traditions and rituals
Once per generation, each of Wiegland's fishing communities appoints a priestess, referred to as a "Siren", to perform the religious duties of their village. Each Siren performs these duties on a nightly basis by standing where the land meets the sea and performing a song; the melody and lyrics of which are unique to each village. It is believed that, if the Deep King finds a Siren's song pleasing, he will reward her village by protecting their boats from ocean storms and providing them with bountiful hauls of fish on their expeditions.
