Lieutenant Onri Hephaestus Slonsky
Onri Slonsky is a Lieutenant Detective in the Division of Murders of the Orendarian Watchmen.

Personal history
Decades ago, Slonsky was a young and idealistic Watchman laden down with bright ideas of how to improve police techniques in the city for the benefit of all classes. Life, unfortunately, was disinterested in his dreams and despite rising through the lower ranks quickly and earning his way to division commander of the public watch - the group at the lowest rank of the Watchmen - the things he had to see and process on a nightly basis drained away his eagerness and replaced it with a cold, cynical acceptance of existential meaninglessness and powerlessness. Seeing as he had grown inured to these things anyway, he was promoted to Vice division. His activities in this department effectively dismantled several organized crime rings, illegal gambling and prostitution rings, and innumberable narcotics violations large and small in the Tiremme part of the city where he lived at the time.
After five years dedicated to the small horrors of Vice - a pastime engaged in with vigorous enthusiasm by young and old at all levels of Orendarian society - he made lieutenant and was transferred up to the larger horrors of Sapiencide - the Murders Department. At the time, eleven years ago, there were so few murders needing investigation in the city that a small squad had jurisdiction over the entire thing, but they seemed to have promoted Slonsky just in time, as the murder rate skyrocketed after the new governor was appointed two years later, and the division was split into multiple pieces and he was given the North Shores, meaning Faubourg, Herron Heights, Marble Court, the Elven Quarter and the Green District, as well as a parade of partners varying from academy drones to slobs even more disheveled than he himself was, despite the pride and effort he put into making only the minimum effort. HIs current assistant, Lem Navratil, is a patient, by-the-books young man who often finds himself left behind at the duty station as it is impossible to determine if Slonsky is going out to work a case or just get sausages and beer - cleverly, he tries to do both at once, as much as possible. He has completely refused multiple promotions and over the years has cultivated such an unpleasant dislike in his superiors that they have stopped even considering it now. He is a lieutenant that will never ake captain, and would never want to.
His most recent case involved the apprehension of a mercenary murderer who frequented the public carriage stations in the Green District, famously known as the Case of the Left Handed Dwarf.
Making up for his intolerable manner and complete disregard for his superiors' wishes is the undeniable fact that he is very, very good at his job - he claims it is in fact the only thing he's good at, and that literally all his talent is focused on this single, simple skill - catching killers. He is also, therefore, nearly incorruptable, as money interests him only as a means for aquiring a reasonable amount of sausage and beer; he has never been married (as is evident by his wardrobe and should anyone ever brave it, the interior of his home), has no children and has, as he says, not even the slightest interest in either; his future is as irrelevant to him as his dreams, which only make him cringe now. On the one hand he has been chewed up and spit out by life, but like a tough length of rope, no amount of chewing can prevent it from being what it is.
Sexuality
Disinterested. A story told at the duty station is that while still working Vice, he was once engaged; but his fiance turned out to be a fraud, or cheating on him, or both; that she died of a drug addiction or in a boating accdent, or both. He regards these stories with a little amusement and a great deal of boredom, suggesting none of this is true at all. Perhaps his time in Vice seeing the things that people would do to each other in order to be able to have other things done to them soured him on the whole business.
Education
Slonsky attended the Gnomic School for Lads, a primary education facility run by the Brotherhood of Scholastic Wood Gnomes of Tiremme (Tiremme, a working class section of town which hasn't had woods of any size since the Elves lived in them, far from city walls at the time). Despite his working class Delabi upbringing, Slonsky was said to do very well in school, having a penchant for numbers and an unassuming manner that helped him tremendously, with everyone having such low expecations that merely meeting the minimum standard was enouogh to thrill the teachers. He went on to Secondary education at St. Otobago's Parishonal school, graduating in the top 5% of his class, from which it was easy to get into the officer track at the Academy of Watchmen (which, unlike the Gnomic School for Lads, is open to both genders - male and female are both referred to as "Watchmen").
Employment
Slonsky has spent his working career in the ranks of the Watchmen, though he had a job before that working at his father's tailor shop in the part of Tiremme known as Julian's Row. To help make ends meet while attending the Watchmen's Academy he also worked nights at a tavern called the Lionlace, not far from the Academy Campus in the Green District. While in Vice he had to convincingly pretend to work a variety of Delabi jobs as well, including flower vendor, bookbinder and dentist.Onri Slon
