S1 E 29: The waters of Tergaith
General Summary
In which the gang does a little shopping, saves the city, and levels up.
- The party takes their time shopping along the Grand Promenade, taking in the sights, colors and delicious aromas of the food vendors in Marleven. They run into Gwynith, the copper dragonborn plumber again as she does a bit of tuning on one of the large fountain wells.
- Mae decides to investigate the well, and Lorfel joins her; a water elemental arises at the surface and begins combat, and a strange creature that seems to be a troll made of water momentarily rushes up to attack Lorfel, but his portent gives him a split milisecond to charm the creature instead. It is enraged by not creating any converts to its newfound religion and is asking, in Deep Speech no one (but Lorfel) can make sense of, "Do you have a moment to talk about our lord and savior, Gorgasuul?"
- It makes a statement, which is has either memorized or has had programmed into its brain by a higher intelligence: "Prepare the path for the Emissary, Borem, the Reclaimer, the Swamp-Who-Walks; Murk, the Denied, of the land beyond comprehension; Gorgasuul, the Deep Lord, against which no Keys can stand." It describes the beings as a triad of elemental powers, overlapping in some ways and distinct in others, who were unable to claim Tergaith as their domain the last time the planes aligned due to 'World Anchors' and efforts that it doesn't seem to understand - likely the creature's masters didn't spend a lot of time detailing how they lost before, focusing the monster's limited intellect instead on what it needs to do for them to win this time. The troll is then fought down, but not before it's able to dart ahead and smash 2 guards to death, terrifying dozens of other civilians.
- When they finally put it down, everything drains away except a flopping teardrop-shaped, tadpole-like creature or organ made of water. Zalock examines it, finds that it too closely resembles an Illithid tadpole for his liking, and stomps it.
- (On the Discord Channels) The City Guard is quick to praise the party and pledge their indebtedness for limiting the loss of life, considering the easy work that the troll made of the guards. It is not an exaggeration to claim they saved the city, and the City's Guard Commander (A cat-minotaur named Ecoten) arrives with assistance, but the fight is already finished, so he sets to helping any injured and removing the dead. He thanks them on behalf of the Countess and invites them to come to her palace later in the day.
- Blizzard, Lorfel and Mae head for the temple to Danilldee which is at the far end of the Grand Promenade across from the entrance to the Race Track, and plan to visit the headquarters of Kannet Colonial Mining as well, to see about those Enforcer jobs Rolli mentioned.
