Ooze Lantern

The light shed by most subspecies of Luminescent Ooze is subtle and faint, like noonday sunlight glowing through a sheet of soft plastic, or a warm lamp in a tan-coloured room obscured under a thick velvet cloth. Never flickering, never faltering, but always gentle, as if it is merely the diffused form of a greater light - such is the radiance of the Luminescent Ooze, which is beheld by evening as these gelatinous beings ooze and slide about the air in indiscernible patterns, changing shape at a whim, lazily coursing through the dim sky in innumerable rounded though amorphous forms as if squeezing through an imaginary maze. It is this movement the illuminators of Loparchee seek to capture, to emulate - and what better way is there to ape this beauty than by snatching it up in a jar?

Mechanics & Inner Workings

It's literally just a light source. It's also used by oracles for divination, because when you do a little esoteric argy-bargy to it the floaty bits of lava lamp slime occasionally coalesce and reshape into forms that actually make sense, like Floons and Murds can be sometimes spotted inside the jar. Omens can be divined from these jars, as the illuminators of Lorpachee have found out thousands of years ago, because some people believe that the Luminescent Oozes are agents of the Yellow Sun.   On the other hand not many people in Gielosk have any use for a lantern, save for the Savants who are cold and rational and dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge and doesn't sleep when the sun goes down, but these things are fun to look at and staring at them has become a hobby, and also long-distance travelers use the Ooze Lanterns when they want to cover a few extra kilometers while flying.

Manufacturing process

Keratin or silica is extracted from certain types of cloud-wool and then woven into glass, which is then stretched out into sheets scaffolded over bamboo frames. Then they are smoothed out with acid, while it is soft, it is bent around into the shape of a vessel or a lantern, and after it hardens both surfaces are polished with a cloth treated with chemicals, and after that is done the lantern is slowly varnished.   Afterwards the Luminescent Ooze is sedated, smashed into pieces, and slapped inside the lantern. Usually a string is threaded through the top of the lantern so someone can carry it around, preferably whilst flying, because it's not easy for a Gieloskan, especially, to carry something that heavy.
Raw materials & Components
High-keratin cloud-wool, acids and varnish, and finally at least one Luminescent Ooze specimen.
