Ferrium

Ferrium is a highly valuable mineral found in caverns deep below Momentum. It has been described as "pure magic in physical form", and has incredible innate power which can be harnessed for fuel, enchantment, arcane augmentation, divination, as well as in the development of powerful weapons of mass destruction. It is activated by kinetic energy (movement) and intent (willpower). Whether that take the form of a wave of a hand and a word of power or the movement of a blade with intent to kill...ferrium aids in the manifestation of magic in all its forms.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Ferrium is often found in crystalline deposits, which emit a characteristic phospholuminescent blue light that will react even to the faintest light shown upon it. It is quite smooth to the touch, however that is not recommended, as these deposits often radiate deadly energy that can lead to death if not properly shielded.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Ferrium is a room-temperature superconductor for energy when it is in solid form. Through a complicated alchemical process, can be converted into a liquid state that is highly concentrated but extremely volatile. This is the primary form it takes for transport, as transporting crystals of the stuff is difficult due to the radiant energy that must be shielded against. Converting the ferrium to liquid state reduces this radiation field considerably, and often a lead vial will be able to shield someone from harm. Artificiers have determined that Ferrium has a stable crystalline pattern with fivefold symmetry which has unusual microscopic voids in the structure that contain arcane energy that is connected to another, astral plane.

Compounds

Ferrium can be combined with other airborne compounds to create an aerosolized version that is used in several rituals, most notably that of the Iron Brotherhood Knights, who use it to create their super soldiers. However, only certain individuals are genetically capable of surviving the inhalation of aerosol ferrium, and thus must be vetted by Theznah D'Valliette, a master onomancer who is able to find the names of those who can survive the process. 
Ferrium can also be used in smelting to create weapons of immense power. This usually requires a fair amount of ferrium, however, and is reserved for the weapons of kings or warlords.

Geology & Geography

It is found deep within Momentum's crust, usually miles below the surface. It has also been found on the ocean floor in submerged caverns.

Origin & Source

Many believe that ferrium is extraterrestrial, remnants of space dust that stuck to Momentum after the formation of the world by the Gods after the Initial Cataclysm which formed the universe.
Some even believe that the Gods themselves are made of ferrium.

Life & Expiration

Ferrium, for all intents and purposes, retains its potency indefinitely. Geomancer have measured that even after 250 years, the energy capacity of an ounce of ferrium still outputs 99.9999 percent of its initial energy.
