Really, I'm just playing with discussion board options at this point, but I guess this could be a great place to go into some of the "cannon" shippings of Imperia and why they matter to me, as well as in general.
Honestly, there's no better place to start than Charger and Misty. While not my OTP of sorts for our world, they are still no doubt one of my favorite couples to write. Mostly because they hit on tropes that I either like unironically or that are fun to throw on their heads. I will not be elaborating on which is which, so the guesswork is on you.
1. Social Standing - One of Charger and Misty's biggest themes in their relationship is their difference in social classes. I am not ashamed to say that I am a huge sucker for Jane Austen's works, and you'd have to have never heard of them to not know that their biggest themes also revolve around love being more powerful than money and prejudice. Charger is "new money" compared to Misty's nobility family. While Misty's family isn't particularly bothered by this difference, Charger is very insecure and aware of it. This leads to Charger influencing Misty to lean into her title and noble heritage at a time that she is struggling with that identity.
2. Feuding Families - Okay, maybe not their families, but their work. The Shadowbolts and Wonderbolts have a long, rocky history of dumb rivalries and pettiness. The whole relationship starting with Charger flirting "with a Wonderbolt" and being shocked when she actually reciprocated - is hilarious to me. This is little more than a detail, as neither of their captains seem to really care other than being distantly annoyed.
3. Other side of the tracks - Like I stated above, Charger is not nobility. He is originally from a low-class family and earned his money basically through a "trade." He still has a rough urban accent that he doesn't hide, but Misty certainly tries to emulate to get away from her own - in her perception, more "snobby" - accent. Instead of the wealth being the more desirable background, both characters struggle more with the identity around their past and where it fits into their future together.
4. Romantic versus Physical Attraction - Spoiler alert: These two started out as a couple whose relationship was entirely physical at first. They jumped into the relationship rather quickly, and it was Charger that asked for them to slow down, eventually. I am a firm believer that a strong romance can start from anywhere and still be real as long as the partners like each other on a personal level. These two pretty much embody that.
5. Behind every great man... - Charger knows he's considered Misty's trophy husband by her society. He leans into it because he thinks it's hilarious.
Tell me what you think about these two and suggest more ships for me to ramble about for fun. It's good for my process!
