Overview:
Deorum is one of the
Terra Meiyer’s largest religions. This practice began over 1,000 years ago in the former
Kingdom of Bethos when people began worshipping
the vibration. It is said that when the Deorum religion originated, everybody in
Terra Meiyer could hear
the vibration, However, over the years the vibration's sound grew feint. In modern day, its hum can no longer be heard by the residents of
Terra Meiyer. Despite this, followers of Deorum believe
the vibration still exists, just very quietly. Due to this, followers will often meditate in an attempt to hear the hum.
Beliefs:
The most devoted followers of Deorum, often refered to as Deorum monks, believe in the vibration, which is a sound that emanated from the earth hundreds of years ago. Few have ever heard its sound, but still followers of Deorum often meditate to strengthen their connection to
the vibration.
They will constructed monasteries across northern
Terra Meiyer where followers can meditate together. These monasteries are located in northern
Terra Meiyer because the followers of Deorum believe that
the vibration's hum is stronger in the north. The belief that
the vibration can be heard clearer in the north is also the reason many Deorum monks began settling in northern
Bethos after its walls fell.
Branches:
There are different branches of Deorum with slightly differing beliefs.
Old Traditions:
The old traditions of Deorum state that
the vibration is the heartbeat of the Old God
Deora, who is said to have brought life to Terra Meiyer. This belief is where the religions name originated from, with the word Deorum deriving from
Deora. The
Kingdom of Bethauna still follows the old traditions.
New Era Practices:
Some modern practitioners believe that everything in nature gives off a faint
vibration. They believe that these vibrations connect everyone and everything in a way that is inconceivable to mortals. Followers of new era practices can be found in Deorum.
Aasimar Practices:
Aasimar practices are a series of practices that the
Kingdom of Bethauna forced onto the
Aasimar race as a form of oppression. According to this branch of the Deorum religion,
Aasimars are blasphemous and there mere existance is an insult to
Deora. Due to this, it is said that
Aasimars must follow these practices or suffer eternal torture in the afterlife.
In
session 5,
Sir Arthur Mernick revealed that this branch of Deorum is a made of tool used by the
Kingdom of Bethauna to oppress
Aasimars.
Aasimar practices states that:
- Touching weakens the spirit. Therefore, Aasimars believe in only three types of touch: the Touch of Spring (during sexual intercourse), the Touch of Summer (to save another) and the Touch of Winter (to bring death).
- Common tongue is not for blasphemers, so Aasimars must only speak when required.
- Striking another follower of Deorum is punishable by torture in the afterlife.
