History of Terra Meiyer
Terra Meiyer is a large, continental island that is surrounded by a treacherous wall of mountains known as the Faux Line. Due to the perilous conditions of the Faux Line, entering and leaving Terra Meiyer is virtually impossible. This mountain range has isolated Terra Meiyer from the rest of the world for its entire known history.
The island of Terra Meiyer was once a thriving and peaceful land that was covered in thick forests and fertile, lowland plains. Resources of all kinds were plentiful and many kingdoms were able to live comfortably and in harmony. However, this age of peace could not last forever. Over time, as many of the kingdoms in Terra Meiyer became more prosperous, they also became more careless with how they used their resources. An arms race of sorts began as kingdoms across Terra Meiyer grew in size at a rapid pace, consuming all the land and natural resources they needed along the way. As a consequence of these kingdoms' gluttonous habits, the resources of Terra Meiyer grew scarce over time. Forests grew thin, rivers dried up, wild animals became a rare sight, and metal ore deposits were almost entirely depleted. With no way to obtain resources from outside the Faux Line, kingdoms around the island began to grow desperate for resources. These once prestigious kingdoms began to crumble and just as things grew dire, the worst case scenario occurred. A drought plagued the island of Terra Meiyer, throwing the entire nation into a state of fear and panic. All at once Kingdoms across the Island began to clash in a desperate pursuit of fertile land and usable resources.
The battles that took place during these times caused most the kingdoms of this age to fall, however one nation was able to avoid these conflicts all together. That nation was known as the kingdom of Bethos. Bethos was a kingdom that, even in the age of peace, stood out as the most powerful nation on Terra Meiyer. It was located at the northern most part of the continent and was stated to have had the most land, the strongest army, and the most influence over the world at this time. They helped create the first international currency, unified nations under a single religion, and would also financially support other kingdoms in need. Documents found from this time even suggest that many people attributed the peaceful state of the world entirely to Bethos' efforts. This reputation was Bethos' greatest asset during the age of peace, however, when the wars began it became there biggest weakness. Bethos was known for its size and abundance of resources which made them a prime target for anyone willing to challenge them. While Bethos' military strength was unrivalled, it was not invincible; and the King of Bethos knew this. That is why, knowing it was only a matter of time before the nation fell, the King decided to enact his final defense plan.
When the drought began, no kingdom was confident enough to strike Bethos. Instead, a small group of kingdoms formed a coalition with the goal of conquering Bethos together. This coalition knew fighting Bethos would be no easy task, so they chose to spend a month meticulously planning out there strategy before attacking. About halfway through the month, the coalition sent scouts to spy on Bethos but when the scouts arrived they found something they never expected. The entire nation of Bethos had been surrounded by a wall that spanned 80m vertically and 20m horizontally. This did not deter the coalition from attacking, but they never made it past the wall.
These events took place over 800 years ago, and to this day nobody knows how these walls were constructed in such a short amount of time. Many others tried to cross the wall after the coalition's attempt, but it was always to no avail. As time passed, legends of what Bethos is like also began to spread. Some said the entire kingdom must be made of gold, others toted that the land had soil that never becomes infertile, while some didnt even believe the kingdom existed. These legends made Bethos infamous across Terra Meiyer, and cemented its place in history as a fabled city of legends.
In the time since Bethos put up its walls, the world has continued. Eventually the wars caused by the drought ended, the land somewhat recovered from the overharvesting, and the world found some semblance of normalcy again. New kingdoms have risen to power and the effects of the drought become a thing of the past.
In modern day Terra Meiyer, the walls closing off Bethos have cracked, granting the citizens of Terra Meiyer access to Bethos (For more info about this, check out the Campaign Intro).
