Laskarian Revolution of 1248 and the Second Bruderkrieg

Revolution

1248DR

The Laskarian Revolution and following Second Bruderkrieg was a culmination of the century of decline following the end of the First Bruderkrieg and crowning of the Xenarchos Dynasty. Kicking off a greater era of conflict, the Revolution gave birth to what would be known as the Federal Laskarian Republic.

An Era of Decline (1142-1230)
With the death of Emperor Regent Manuel Dragases and the crowning of Alexios II of the Xenarchos dynasty as Basileus, the first Bruderkrieg came to an offical end in 1142. Despite the initial stabilization following the end of the civil war during Dragases's reign, the empire managed to defy projections and entered a slow but severe decline. The people started to turn against the monarchy, despite the Emperor's best efforts to reform the nation and lift up the economy.
