Arrow Types

Overview

These arrow heads are mainly for use by Rangers. The Ranger Lodges will provide any Ranger or Stranger with any of these arrows if requested at the price of a normal arrow. NOTE: Specialist arrows do exist that have other requirements place upn their use. Bowyers and Fletchers can also sell these arrows - but often charge extra and again - will only sell to Rangers or Strangers. These arrow types are part of the benefits of the Ranger Class, and so in most cases cannot be used by other classes (often they just don't know about them).

1. Incendiary Arrow

Designed to hold burning material in the metal cage near the head - damage 2D6 (50% of damage from fire). Rogues, if they can secure them use them for swiftly transporting stolen leather purses, gems and scrolls out of search areas. Clerics of Apollo also use this arrow to smash holy water flasks into undead.

2. Scythian Flat-barbed Arrow

Designed for making sure the arrow cannot be pulled out easily. Originally designed by Scythians to ensure poisons on the arrow will have more time to take effect.  Can be used by Rangers and Strangers to do normal damage.

3. Scale Piercer

Designed to penetrate armor, allows arrow to maintain its damage even when dealing with heavily scaled creatures and scale armored individuals. (-1AC against scaled animals).

4. Broad-Head Arrow

Standard Arrow - used for war and hunting of large game.

5.Dwarven Stone Stabber

Specialised arrow - only available to Dwarves, or recognised Dwarven Allies (those who have done something that benefits the Dwarven race.) This specialised arrow allows for the penetration of stone (due to the runes on it as well as design). This allows the arrow to act as a belay to any cord or silken rope carried by it. (weight holding ability is 1D6 x 100 pounds - the amount of weight it can hold is not clearly known to the shooter once the arrow is in place.)

6. Whistling Arrow

Designed for signalling - the whistling arrow has two or more holes in the point that allow the arrow to make a loud noise as it goes through the air. It has a signalling distance of up to a quarter-mile away (take local geography into account - Mountains double the distance). For each quarter-mile beyond, Wisdom checks to hear a whistle take a –2 penalty. Often used to communicate between villages and towns in immediate areas and to warn off animals. Damage 1D4-1

7. Diamond Arrowhead (Jeweler Guild)

This arrow head is used by bodyguards of Gem Merchants and Jewelers, it is supposed to be only used when protecting official gem and jewel carrying caravans, but is commonly used in Gem Mining Areas by the guards of such mines also. Healers removing such arrowheads are said to be rewarded with the weight of the arrow in gems if they return such an arrow to the Jeweler Guild along with a description of the target from whom they pulled the arrow.

8. Triangular Arrow Head

A hunting arrow head - often used to keep the arrow in the target after it has been hit - same damage as an ordinary arrow. Used a lot because it can be easily recreated using horn, or stone materials in a survival situation.

9. Practice Arrowhead

Used for target practice only - allows for far easier reuse but less piercing damage (1D4 damage).

10. Elven Incendiary

This Arrow head simply has holes in the tip that allow for burning wicks, messages, or small objects to be tied to the tip of the arrow for delivery - often called a messenger arrow - it is rumored to be favored by Rogues dedicated to Hermes for this very reason. (Rogues also use it to shoot light lines across distances so that the line can be pulled over and used to guide ropes across longer distances when working in teams.

11. Dwarven Tagger Arrow

This arrow does the same damage as normal but is far more likely to stick out of the target in a vertical (or elevated manner) due to the weight of the arrowhead. Each of these arrows has a mini-flag or pendant on shaft unique to the user. It is specifically used to Mark the Target - indicating who has killed (or at least hit) the target, and allows easier tracking of the target if it flees as well - as it does increase blood trailing due to the injury type. (+1 to tracking checks).

12. Scythian Fishing Arrow

This arrow is specifically target fish - it is the same distance as normal fishing but a successful fishing check using the bow allows for an instant kill of the fish and can only be done in clear waters - it allows fishing without a rod/line in survival situations.

13. Bident Arrow/Pursuitgiver Arrow (Slavehunter's Arrow)

This arrow is pointless and not designed to penetrate, it is solely used to cut cords, or to cut into the legs of fleeing prisoners or slaves in the slave lands.

14. Elven Broadblade Arrowhead

This arrow is the Elven version of a broadblade arrow - and is often very ornately etched and embossed. These arrows are commonly used as 'signature arrows' allowing for Elves to launch personal feud and dueling challenges to one another.

15. Massed Arrow (Piercing)

This is a siege arrow, often called a Bodkin Arrow - it penetrates like an ordinary arrow (but for slightly less damage 1D6 -1) but will travel further (+10% for each range). They are commonly used in mass arrow launches where the intent is to have thousands of arrows in the air at any one time. (The Narrow point increases chances that it will go into small openings in armor and between overlaps in plates.)

16. Cord Cutter Arrow

Cuts the strings of bows - can cut the bow itself, ropes, and even bring down flags or banners.

17. Concussion Arrow/Birding Arrow/Slavehunter Arrow

Brings down Birds without destroying the small target. Blunt damage arrow 1D4+1.
