Atlantis Continent

Overview

The entire Island Continent or Micro-Continent of Atlantis (Ἀτλαντὶς) still stands - however it is in fact slowly sinking. Histories show that it was at one point much larger - but over the Aeons it has slowly sunk about 1400 to 1600 metres into the Oceans.

The entire area is said to be maintained above the waves for the Sake of Atlas - the first son of Poseidon. Indeed the name Atlantis (Ἀτλαντὶς) means 'Of Atlas'. The Pillar of Atlas that stands in the central temple of the City of Atlantis is said to be one of the items on the Continent that allows it to remain above the waves. 
Poseidon is said to be slowly reclaiming the continent for the Ocean itself, followers of Hephaestus state that the entire continent is still feeling the pressure of his weight as he pressed down upon it at the moment when it took his hand. He was forced to amputate it or be pulled into the very core of the continent itself, and the current state of the land signifies his 'hand print' locked in the land and it's features.

Whether it is Zeus, Poseidon, or Hephaetus - it is still unclear which of the Gods seeks to make Atlantis a part of the ocean. But if or when this will ever happen in it's totality no one knows. With the loss of consistent flows of time through the actions of Chronos, and of Hekate as well, everything has changed. But hints of the past still stand.

Anthropomorphic Legend

It is said that at the time of distributing lands to the Gods - that the Atlantis area was being finished (volcanoes being deposited) by Hephaestus - and he was caught up in the process of creation by accident. He stumbled and his hand came to rest on the land - only to be transformed itself into part of the Continent. In a case of self-preservation he froze his wrist and struck at it - to break off the appendage.

The results include five main peninsulas - each linked to a different finger. Interestingly the index finger peninsula - is known as the Split reach - and it is split into two narrow peninsulas running parallel to one another. A rumor exists that the god had accidentally split open his finger on a new invention and to hide his mistake he arranged for the accident that would take his hand - giving him the perfect excuse to fashion a new living metal hand with which he can produce ever greater treasures and mechanisms.

Geography

The Continent is a huge span of land from North to South. It has several peninsulas spreading North, North-East, and projecting out Eastwards. Each area has a unique set of geological phenomenon and climates. 
The Central Plain has the Northern and Southern Escarpments as boundaries, allowing for the Kingdoms of the Atlantid Kings to be well protected from less civilised cultures and species that seek to take the more economically viable land for themselves. 

Extensive vulcanism exists on the continent making it a highly volatile area to live.
