Overview
The Forest of the Moon consists of a huge forest of three types of trees, the first trees to grow on the Lunar surface was the Sweet Olive. This came in two varieties, the Silver Sweet Olive, said to be sacred to Apollo (who used the wood in his arrow shafts), and the Gold Sweet Olive which was used by Artemis in her arrow shafts. Why the god and goddess used Silver for the Sun and Gold for the Moon is not known.
The forest would later expand to include the Cinnamon Cassia (κιννάμωμον) Tree, which was said to have been planted by the God Apollo after he received the gift of both cinnamon and Malabathron (Cassia) at his temple in Miletus on the coast of Anatolia. (Toussaint-Samat 2009, p. 437)
The last tree to be introduced into the forest was that of the Laurel tree itself - in truth all three of these trees are considered to derive from the same family.
