The Spectrum Forges of the Khazad

Overview

The Dwarven Forge Masters of Ancient times long studied the correlations between the temperature, the material being burned, and resulting flames of the forges being tended to. There are a broad range of forges, each running to a maximum temperature that allows the working of metals of different hardness. Some forges naturally imbue magical qualities on the items placed within them. As a rule of thumb, The hotter the forge, the more experience needed as a Forgemaster.
No Forgemaster will allow just anyone near a forge - the right must earned.

Lava & Magma Forges


The Lava Forges run on fresh lava, which stream through many Dwarven Mountain Forgresses. (A Forgress being a Dwarven Fortress that includes Volcanic Based Forge Technologies within them.) Magma Forges are those that tap into pressurized Magma below the mountain forges - they are far more dangerous to work with. Each of the forges can also repair gems of the same color-true spectrum as the gem's hue. It allows for a step change towards a flawless gem of no inclusions to be made from lesser gems within the forge. However, only Gemseekers are said to know exactly how this is done.

Ultramafic Forges allow for the forging of +1 or higher weapons. Komatiite Magma Forge 1600 °C

Blue Taronic Forges


TARONIC FLAME (Earthen Flame)

The Taronic Concept holds that all Elemental beings derive from the Earth Prime Material in some form first. These flames burn with a bright blue flame. They also allow for the creation of +2 magical items and those of general nature such as rings and bracers worth less than 15000 XP.

Black Forge (Eclipsed Forge/Lunar Forge)


This style of forge was created by Artemis and Hephaestus to work the fabled Mithril metal. It is said that the forge is so hot that the shielding around the forge effectively makes the forge black (no heat) in infra-vision. Some joke that the inside of the forge makes infra-vision sight go black too as it effectively blinds the viewer temporarily.  This forge can run at heats ranging from 2,300 ° – 3,000° C.
This forge allows for the forging of +3 or less magical items or items worth 30,000XP or less if no + bonus is given. However, lesser magical items must be sacrificed in order to spark the magical essence within the forge for this to occur.

Solar Forge (Plasmatic Forge)

Working together with his twin sister - who provided the cooling needed for the forge itself, and Hephaestus, the God Apollo used the heat of the Helios Sun to power a forge for the creation of Adamantium. Today, there are very few such forges in number, some say as few as three in the entire continent, and they remain the only Forges hot enough to work Adamantium outside of a lightning bolt.

Plasmatic Forges allow for the creation of +5 or less magical items. But often require a sacrifice of lesser magic in order to be used in such a manner.

Complexity
The Forges of the Dwarves are run mainly by Geothermal activity, and fall within the range of Hephaestus's and Vulcan's powers. It is also with the aid of Elementals that the dwarves use
Discovery
Taught to the Dwarves by Hephaestus. The range of forges have expanded - allowing the working of ever greater varieties of metals.
