Upbringing and Early Life
Donorik was born in the small farming community of Carver's Lake, north of Dawgforth. His upbringing was relatively ordinary; he helped his father with the farming, and his father in turn taught him how to wield a blade. Donorik always had a certain proclivity and a natural ease when it came to sparring with his father, and it would come as no surprise that he would soon become a natural and gifted swordsman. His mother taught him to read by the age of five, and he was already five and a half feet tall by age seven, larger than all the other boys in town. He would soon surpass his father's abilities at sparring, and he sought a more difficult challenge. Donorik was only 12 years old the first time he went to the Dawgforth barracks and asked to enlist. He was met by a room full of laughter, and cries of "he's only a boy", "what good'll he do?" But he remained vigilant, and trained every day in the city, right outside the gates of the Dawgforth keep. After weeks and months of dedicated practice, swinging his blade and practicing his stances, one of the blade masters, overcome by curiosity and the young boy's determination, took Donorik under his wing. He would receive training from the blade master for two full years, until he was finally permitted early enlistment at age 14, two years before boys were normally allowed to enlist in the army. And thus, his esteemed military career was born.
Donorik Marten, first of his name, born to common parents in a farming community outside of Dawgforth.
