Fauna & Flora
Sub Alpine Vegetation
The lower slopes are generally comprised of conifer-dominated forest. Common tree species include the furu (pine), pikynr (fir), äkil (spruce), and panäcea (larch). The panäcea has the pyramidal growth habit typical of conifers, but the leaves are shed near the end of the harvest season, like those of deciduous trees. The short needle-like leaves are arranged spirally on new growth and in whorls at the tips of short spurs on older twigs. There are 10 to 30 soft, light green needles on each spur.
Apine Vegetation
Being above the treeline, there is a much shorter growing season where smaller plants grow, typically from about Timorah to Melorah. However, when the seasons do begin to warm and turn to the warmer harvest times, wild flowers and grasses color the mountain side like a vibrant rainbow. The white, rocky alpine terrain is transformed by the bright blues of the istbar flower, the golden aster, the reds of the kînem flower, and the sprawling greens of the multiple species of grasses and mosses.
