The Jade Forest

Geography

The Jade Forest is a vast expanse of forested terrain, almost exclusively unique to the elves of Terram. It has been their ancestral homeland for thousands of years, and they have established a sprawling civilization within it's sylvan environs. The climate is cool-temperate and semi-continental with moderately warm summers, fairly snowy—but not frigid—winters and moderate precipitation. Several rivers flow through the Jade Lands, the source of the rivers coming from melting snow high atop the peaks of the mountains, thus making it a very pure and clean source of water. The palatial ancient capital city of Eifrandël sits in the heart of the Jade Forest, surrounded by picturesque waterfalls and thousands of years of carefully crafted Elven architecture.

Fauna & Flora

Sub-Alpine Vegetation

At the lower altitudes of the Jade Lands, some of the more common trees include the Cetinuth Aes (chestnut), Nimloth Aes (walnut), and the Candui Berrui Aes (fig). Many different species of flower thrive at lower altitudes, including the Jade Lily, Anarand Beautui, and the Gladkuiri.

Alpine Vegetation

At higher elevations, the Edilthaun (pine), Mírlas (maple), Ivannuin (oak), and Malthen Emel (golden heart) are common species of tree. Floral species at higher elevations include the Mithriglir, Losairis, Elder Hríw, and Ainil Daisui.

The Dúr Iham Aes (jade), is found at altitudes above and below the snow line, and is the most plentiful species of tree in the Jade Lands. Slight variations exist at higher altitudes, some elves refer to this variant as the Echor Iham Aes, but all come from the same genus.

Natural Resources

Many sources of sustenance can be harvested from the flora and fauna of the Jade Forest. Different variations of nuts, berries, tree saps and barks, have been cultivated over the years by native elves to create delicacies uniquely their own. The elves have their own unique method of harvesting the wood from the Dúr Iham Aes and Echor Iham Aes trees, the yield has been used for generations as a catalyst for strengthening tools and weapons.
