Queen of Rose

The Queen of Rose is the title given to the monarch for the Roselands to whom all other nobles are expected to give their loyalty.

Qualifications

The Queen is usually a sorceress, as Demon blood is common in the aristocracy of the Roselands.

Requirements

The Queen must be of one of the Noble Houses, and it is preferable that she has a connection to the current Royal Line.

Appointment

The Queen is raised to the position after the death of the reigning monarch. They are typically ordained by a Speaker of the Demon-Prince, for whichever Demon-Prince their house claims as their primary patron. The current Queen of Rose, for instance, was appointed by the Speaker of the Thunder Stealing Raven.

Duties

The Queen represents her city and the fiefdoms loyal to it to the grander world. She also is expected to listen and adjudicate for conflicts between the nobles sworn to her crown. She is expected to stay vigilant and protect her people from Dream and the whispers of the Demon-Gods.

Responsibilities

The Queen is the head of state for the Roselands. She must entreat with envoys from other powers, hold court for her nobles, provide for her people when in need, and keep the people safe with her magic.

Benefits

The title of Queen comes with a lot of power within the Roselands but not too much influence outside of it. Though the Roselanders have merchants and sail the Shimmering Sea, they are far more of a local power than their southern cousins in the Gold Coast or the Iron Empire.

Accoutrements & Equipment

Each of the three cities of the Roselands has a special symbol of office that is given to the monarch upon her coronation. The Crown of Roses, the Mantle of Lamentations, and the Sword of the Sister.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

There is no way, short of usurpation, to remove the Queen from her power.
