Lizardlands

The Lizardfolk's ancestorial homelands were deep within the lush jungle riverlands of central plain of upper Umbregia. But they have been on the losing end of their long struggle with the Githyanki, and now cling to the last few coastal cities around the Tortle Bay.

History

Lizardfolk religion asserts they are the true inheritors of this world. They believe the original inhabitants of this world were their ancestorial forebears known to them as the Old Ones. They were exceptionally advanced beings, who had a complete mastery of the arcane. The Lizards believe the Old Ones transcended existence, leaving this world for a planal exploration of the great unknown. The Old Ones left the Lizards in charge of this world, providing them with a guide to live by known as the Great Plan. The priests of Lizardfolk have carried out these plans from day one until now. It is prophesized that the Old Ones will return one day when this world is eternally doomed, and if the Lizards have followed the Great Plan, the Old Ones will let the Lizards ascend with them.   Lizardfolk society is split between groups, The Warm Ones and the Cold Ones. The Warm Ones have a gift for the Arcane, and its grasp comes natural to them. It has long been concluded that the most powerful sorcerers in all of our world reside temples of Lizardland. As a result, Warm Ones take up the positions of power in Lizardfolk culture. They are the political and religious leaders. The Cold Ones are essentially everyone else. It is not unheard of for Cold Ones of great renown to ascend the social ladder into positions of authority and influence based on merit.   The Lizardfolk were once the major power in Upper Umbregia, but they have seen huge swaths of their homeland conquered by the ascendant Gith. They now cling to the last vestiges of their land along the Itza and Jin'linth peninsulas. The loss of the ancient citadel captial of Zum'Roct to the Gith in 1686 AC was substantial loss for the Lizardfolk. As a result, many Cold Ones have been shunning the Warm One's ironclad devotion to the Great Plan. Many groups defy their demand to stay and retake their homeland, and instead set forth to find new domain to settle. This has created friction with their neighbors, especially the Sea-Elves of the South and the Dragonborn cities of the southern tip.
