Autosink
Historical Equivalent: Dishwasher
Eletech Category: Public, luxury
Bound Elemental: Water & Fire
Autosink is based roughly on a Dwarven dish washing device that uses a hand turned wheel to splash water on dishes in an attempt to clean them. The mechanical devices were never very efficient and more a novelty item then practical household appliance.
With the use of Eletech however, Autosinks have now become commonplace in rich households and a large number of upper middle class homes now have them. The cost has still made them not feasible for lower class families.
From the outside, Autosinks look like regular cabinets. But when opened they have special racks that can slide in and out to be loaded with dishes, silverware, and cups. Nicer models have removable racks to be able to accommodate large items like pots and pans. A water source is required for them to operate. Most are attached either to indoor plumbing or a water tank.
When activated a water elemental pulls water through a set of tubing that is heated by a fire elemental. The water elemental then mixes in special soap before spraying the dishes. Higher quality dishwashers have elementals capable of adjusting the pressure of the water spray so the china and pots can both be washed without damage.
Research is being done into using fire elementals to dry the dishes also, but so far those tests have ended badly for the machine, or its contents. In one recent case, the failed test claimed the lives of two elven researchers. At this time, scullery maids are still responsible for the loading and drying of dishes.
Researchers are also currently exploring options to use this technology for clothing washing machines.
Operation requirements: Turning them off/on are a simple task (Int Check, DC 5), but repairing or altering requires a proficiency in Tinker's Tools and are a DC 15 Int checkInt Check (Proficiency Tinker’s Tools)
