Dragonkin History

The Dragonkin are the oldest of the races on Terranon, having been created by the goddess Kelesta an age before the other gods started creating races. Tales have it that dragons, true dragons, were first, with Dragonborn shortly after. Kobolds were created shortly before the other races began walking the lands of Terranon, and while True Dragons have not been seen in millenia, Dragonborn and Kobolds are thriving.

Dragonkin Culture

Shared meals is a cultural norm among the Dragonkin. It is common for the entire Kinfolk to gather at least once a month for a large communal meal. Between such communal meals, smaller family groups, called clutches, will take turns hosting other families for meals. The Dragonborn in particular use these smaller meals to create and influence factions within the Kinfolk.   Dragonkin food is well known for their spice and heat level. Their preferred diet is fish, preferably heavily spiced. Tegs, an ama’il Kobold in Novandria, is recognized as the greatest Dragonkin chef in all of Eisen and recently opened a new restaurant, Dragonbone Grill, that is the talk of the town. Tegs’ knife skills are legendary, when fileting a fish.

Beliefs

With the breaking with the old beliefs of worshiping the Great Dragons, Europa Dragonkin have begun to adopt other gods in the pantheon. One of the most popular among Eisen’s Kobolds is Rhemnys due to the number of craftsmen among the Kobold. Many of the Eisen’s Dragonborn however lean toward Kelestra due her tie to dragons and magic.

Dragonkin in Eisen

For much of Eisen’s history, Dragonkin have been antagonistic and chaotic variables in the former Empire and now Republic. In the case of Kobolds, many disputes between the early Dwarven Kingdoms and the kobold tribes for mountain space, mining locations, and the like led to a number of disputes and all out wars.   The Dragonborn were not just the first race to be created, but they were some of the first of the Dragonkin to have joined civilization. They began to throw off the old beliefs and paved the road for other Dragonkin to join society. Early on, Dragonborn were wellknown for their willingness to be on the front line, protecting civilizations in return for being accepted. The majority of the noble houses of Dragonborn can trace back their family lines to knights or adventurers famous for defending the lands throughout Europa. In modern days, the Dragonborn often act as spokespeople for the Dragonkin.   Though Dragonborn may have walked into civilization first, the Kobolds can claim to be the Dragonkin which has had the largest mark on Eisen. Though initially distrusted, they have earned a level of respect among the citizens of Eisen, and in turn won their citizenship. Kobolds can be found in many professions throughout Eisen, but they tend to gravitate toward professions that benefit from groups working together such as glass blowing, construction, and large scale metal work. Some naturalists have theorized that this is an evolutionary adaptation of their Draconic Cry ability.

Dragonkin in Other Countries

The Dragonkin in the Kingdom of Avalon are considered Foreigners with very few exceptions, mostly those found with strong magical talent. Dragonkin are oftentimes treated like second cousins that must be tolerated.   Among the Castillian, the Kobolds and Dragonborn are well known for driving their Dragon cult cousins out of the Cutlass Mountains and establishing several small towns. As a result, the Dragonkin have long had citizenship in Castille. Only Vesten is known to have a larger population of Dragonkin than Castille.   Very few Dragonkin live in The Free Republic of Montaigne. Though Dragonkin are respected and considered citizens, many Dragonkin dislike the hedonistic culture of the county. Those that live there often do so as traders or live in small towns mainly composed of Dragonkin.   Patlov strongly supports its Dragonkin citizens as a result of their strong participation in gaining its independence. Nerrez the Short, is a famous Kobold general that organized the first Patlov army made up heavily of Dragonkin. He helped establish the tradition that when citizens come of age, they must spend training with the army. Today, despite its decline, Dragonkin still make up a considerable portion of the army.   Ruskovich's tendency toward racial segregation has lead to small towns of Dragonkin located along the Tranquil Depths. One is led by a Dragonborn named Iron John. The other is led by a Kobold known as Lex the Wolf. Despite the sometimes poor communication between the two towns, they have worked together to earn citizenship for Dragonkin in Roskovich.   Vesten has a large and widespread clan structure of Dragonborn that is part and parcel of the country’s history and founding. Large Kolold communities are also very common. Clans of Dragonkin in Vesten tend to be made mainly of one specific type of Dragonkin, unlike other counties where they intermingle more.   In Vodacce, a few of the Dragonborn have managed to gain citizenship in the last few years and are actively working to win citizenship for other Dragonkin.   The status of the Dragonkin in the Summerlands depends entirely on the Vampire Lords over the area they live. Though officially recognized as citizens, each Lord is left to interpret the laws they choose. In some areas Dragonkin are honored and make up the backbone of the local Vampire Lord's army. In other areas, they are barely second class citizens.
