All characters in Terranon start with common language proficiency and one other Standard or Exotic language proficiency of their choice.
This second language should be considered your cultural heritage language, and was commonly spoken among the people you were growing up with, such as your family, your village, etc. This does not have to be tied to your race, but typically is. If you're playing an elf that grew up in a mostly dwarven village, you probably speak dwarven, not elvish. Although not commonly used, these languages may be found in remote villages and ruins, or might give you advantage when speaking to someone that uses that cultural language.
Some features and backgrounds grant even more language proficiencies. These are languages that you've learned in the past in addition to your cultural heritage language.
