The Gentle Society of Accoutrementiers and Beauticians

Hairstylists, beauticians, massage therapists, manicurists, perfumers, and those who make accessories

The SAB counts among its members hairstylists, beauticians, massage therapists, manicurists, perfumers, and those who make accessories, such as gloves, hats, spectacles, umbrellas -- all the necessary small items that aren’t clothing but make up a fashionable ensemble.

Structure

Guildmaster

Jaycinth Rainwatcher - ama’il fairy
Known as Jinx, they have been Guildmaster for about a decade. They are a hairdresser and beautician extraordinaire, with wealthy clients paying exorbitant amounts of money to try and book them before an event. They are incredibly kind, witty, and humorous, although sometimes absent-minded and clumsy.

Guild Representative

Karl di Campo, the SAB’s representative, is an irrepressibly flamboyant gnome. Famous for his black-and-white hair, penchant for yellow clothing, and rather kooky sense of humor, Karl is well-known across Eisen for creating wildly imaginative decorative hats and headpieces.

Guild Administrator

Ekatarina Verley is the current guild administrator. Ekatarina, a female tabaxi who makes beautiful, elaborate wigs, had to be roped into the administrator position because, as Jinx says, it is good for her. Left to her own devices, Etakarina would much rather lounge around, eating snacks and reading trash novellas. As such, she is extremely efficient at getting paperwork done so she can go back to lazing.

Guild Structure and Ranks

Apprentice: SAB apprentices are trained in one particular area of the guild’s purview, whether it be crafting items or working with clients. The guild focuses on depth of knowledge far more than breadth of knowledge, and encourages apprentices to really explore the nuances of their field and to express their creativity through their craft.   Journeyer: Journeyers are encouraged to keep pushing the creative bounds of their art, and are often given space within a salon or workshop to practice.   Master: Masters in the SAB are renowned for their style, artistry, and passion for their craft. A salon or shop owned by a Master is certain to have the very latest fashions in accessories, hair design, or beautifying techniques.   Mastery Exam: A Mastery examination for the SAB involves an exhibition of 10 pieces created by the potential Master, showcasing their design skills and construction techniques. Points are given for how interesting and stylized the decorations or designs are.

Culture

The guild has one of the most relaxed cultures between all of the accorded guilds. Apprentices are treated as artisans, simply ones that need to be refined and polished. There is an unspoken rule that, while advertising one’s wares or services in a general sense is fine, directly poaching another member’s client is an insult and a shame, and will likely get one shunned by other members. Members of the guild are prone to gossip, and quite often turn the rumor mill regarding scandals or interesting topics across the country.   Twice a year, the guild hosts a conclave of sorts, in which members are allowed to set up their own booths showcasing their offerings. These conclaves are patronized by the nobility, and open to the public with the payment of a small fee. These events are held to highlight the latest trends and fashions, to attract new clients, and to display the talents of up-and-coming apprentices and journeyers.   Patron God: Peitho

Guild Symbols

While the official symbol of the SAB is an open hand fan, worn in either copper, silver, or gold depending on rank, members of the guild are mostly recognized by their elaborate, fanciful dress and accessories.

Guild House Description

The SAB guild house is a large, airy building of white stone located on Guild Row. The house, along with standard amenities such as rooms for members and work areas, also has a substantial garden filled with plants used in cosmetics and perfumery, and several exhibition halls for displaying new fashions.

Public Agenda

While many other guilds consider the SAB frivolous, the guild knows that their place as trendsetters and stylists is of great importance. They take making people feel good about their appearance as a sacred task. The guild also regulates the usage of dangerous chemicals or plants in personal care products.

Assets

Although the SAB has no great resources in wealth or materials, they are on the pulse of the latest trends across Europa.
