The Gilded Library of Scribes, Historians, Archivists, and Clerks

Scribes (documents and bookmaking), clerks, historians, archivists

Structure

Guildmaster

Meleese Meadra - Human female
The current leader of the Gilded Library, Meleese, is a political powerhouse in Eisen, well connected and likely to know everyone. Fortunately, she has turned her prodigious intellect to the organization and keeping of history and tales and spends much of her time at the Eisen Guild House working to perfect the historical archives of the city.

Guild Representative

Mayken Van Der Alst - Aasimar Female - a petite woman with a quick smile, Mayken serves as the guild representative for the scribes and historians guild. Her charm and warmth are paired with a keen mind for negotiation.

Guild Administrator

Ilene Johannes - Halfling female Ilene is one of two guild administrators for the Gilded LIbrary which splits this duty into one Administrator for the Historian and archivist side and another administrator for the scribal and clerk side. Ilene is seemingly tireless and keeps all of the somewhat scattered historians and archivists - known more for their research and recording skills than their organization - moving in one direction.

Finn “The Snail” Johannes - Halfling Female
Ilene’s sister is the second guild administrator for the Gilded Library. A tandem pair with her twin, Finn is known for her methodical record keeping. Her moniker does not come from her speed but rather from a personality that never seems to let much bother her. She has been known to solidly deal with more than one flailing archive artisan with completely neutral expression before resolving the issue. Finn administrates the scribes, clerks and physical artisan side of the library.

Guild Structure and Ranks

Apprentice: Apprentice of the Gilded Library are taught, above all things, that knowledge is sacred and that the preservation of such is their ultimate goal. Apprentices, over the course of their education, learn methodical note-taking techniques, organization skills, calligraphy and illumination, and the repair of damaged manuscripts and books.   Journeyer: By the time a guild member reaches journeyer, they have usually found their preferred niche within the Library, choosing to work as a clerk, librarian, historian, scribe, archivist, or restorer.   Master: Masters in the guild handle the most delicate documents, the most elaborate calligraphy, the most critical note-taking. In addition, Masters direct the scores of journeyers and apprentices under them in organizing the massive amounts of texts and records the Library possesses.   Mastery Exam: The Mastery exam of the Gilded Library is a multi-sectioned exam, proving that even though the individual may have a preferred specialty, they are still able to work in any area the guild requires.

Culture

Sometimes a visit to the Gilded Library is almost entertaining. While the guild house itself is often quiet, few of its members are typically known for being direct thinkers or organized individuals. Because of this, you are as likely to encounter a quiet, peaceful library and scriptorium - or walk into an argument between two historians on the correct interpretation of a given event. The guild, thus, maintains a certain air of chaos and informality about it - though it’s generally wise not to mention that to its masters who take their work very seriously.   Patron God: Athesne

Guild House Description

The gilded library is a humble-looking brick building on Guild House row. It is, however, also one of the larger guild houses, housing within it an immense library of the history of Terranon that is open for city populace use.

Public Agenda

The historians and scribes guild provides a valuable repository of knowledge for Eisen. Their main library contains historical documents and other valuable archives of the non-magical variety. The guild works closely with the bardic guild to gain new tales and information and with the adventurer’s guild to keep records of their travels.

Assets

The guild maintains a small paper mill and cattle farm outside of Novandria for the production of paper and parchment and supplies for the guild.

History

Up until the last decade, the Historians guild leadership and upper ranks were almost exclusively male. With the social changes in Europa, Meleese, a Master, made her move for the guild leadership position when the prior guild leader, Emil Lang, died. Immediately, Meleese moved to increase the number of women and non-binary individuals within the ranks of the guild including an all female leadership team.
