The Interlaced Guild of Fabric Arts and Production

Weaving, dyeing, spinning, embroidery, and textile production

The Interlaced Guild’s crafts include weaving, dyeing, spinning, embroidery, and textile production and arts

Structure

Guildmaster

Pol Weber, an ama’il satyr who specializes in silk dyeing, currently heads the Interlaced Guild. From the far southern forests of Eisen, Pol is known for their artistic flair, creativity, encouragement of exploratory techniques, and being a masterful dyer of silk. Pol is also known for a long string of lovers of various genders, all of whom seem to end up still being friends with them later.

Guild Representative

Safiya bint Suliman, a female air genasi, is the Interlaced Guild’s representative to the Council of Guids. Safiya is one of the youngest masters the guild had ever seen. She was promoted at the age of 19 and has continued to astound the guild with the variety and skill of her weaving and fiber artistry. Her cloth is a guild treasure and sold for high ranking noble and royal outfits. She is quick witted, sharp tongued, but generally full of good humor and an occasional naughty joke.

Guild Administrator

Hans Brunner, the human administrator for the Interlaced Guild, specializes in embroidery. Having grown up in the poorer sections of Eisen, Hans distinguished himself at fine needlework from a young age. He began sewing and embroidering, completing piece work with his mother for family funds. His skill was such that she found a master to apprentice him to the guild. Now in his early 30’s, he regularly designs embroidery motifs for sale and for the guild. He is known to carefully search the lower classes of Eisen for talented needle-workers and artisans for the guild, providing them sponsorship.

Guild Structure and Ranks

Apprentice: Affectionately known as “Warpers”, apprentices are encouraged to try numerous types of fiber art as many of the specialties support one another.   Journeyer: Affectionately known as “Wefters”, journeyers declare a specialty in one specific area of the fiber arts, although many are skilled in multiple disciplines   Master: Masters are given the honorary title of “Weaver” regardless of their art specialty.   Mastery Exam: To become a Master in the guild, the journeyer must present a master work piece and an original creation using the skills of their chosen area.

Culture

The guild is incredibly artistically open and sharing. Fiber arts have a long history of being shared as a communal resource and pastime with, previously, women gathering to work on spinning, weaving, embroidery, etc. together. The guild encourages large work days in its spacious guild hall where chatter and banter are the norm.   The advent of eletech weaving machines has been something of a mixed blessing. While the Guild supports the use of industrial cloth making, it has also made the creativity of its artisans even more important. Small batch projects are now quickly snapped up by wealthy clients and guild members work with factories to create simpler but still elegant patterns and embellishment for “mass made” fabric.   Patron God: Kelesta

Guild Symbols

Guild members wear tool chatelaines with scissors and other sewing accoutrement. Apprentices wear a chatelaine of copper and journeyers wear one of silver; Masters wear a chatelaine of gold and are given a custom set of scissors designed in a motif that suits them.

Guild House Description

The guild hall is located on Artisan’s Row and is largely an open concept building with different crafting areas. The guild has not mechanized its own weaving production and uses wooden looms.

Public Agenda

The Interlaced Guild has adapted well to the changes of eletech. Once responsible for the sponsoring of all fabric creation in the city and ensuring that the fabric stocks were well prepared for all ranks of society, the guild has shifted to much more artistic and specialized work as eletech has made basic production much faster and easier. The guild also works with factories to try and produce good quality results and ensure worker safety.

Assets

Despite the now “limited runs” of their production, the guild still does financially well as its goods are considered the epitome of supplies for fashion and noble fashion in the city. They also work closely with the Society of Tailors on numerous projects.

History

In the 1500’s and 1600’s, the guild was solely run by women. As time progressed, the guild opened its ranks to everyone.
