The Transeisen Order of Messengers and Journalists

Messengers, Couriers, and Journalists (written and photographic)

Structure

Guildmaster

Hanover Bekken - Human Male
A hard hitting, muck-raking journalist from one of Novandria’s leading papers is the current Guild Master of the Order. Bekken has been solely responsible for several major news stories investigating the working conditions in factories and tenement areas of Eisen. He has a deep commitment to journalistic honor and integrity.

Guild Representative

Elena Bly, Female Changeling - Elena has retired from her years as a news-woman in Novandria wherein she gained fame for using her changeling abilities to go undercover for a story. Now, she serves as the current guild representative.

Guild Administrator

The Guild Administrator for the Order is Petyr “Pippen” Itsko. Formerly from Ruskovich, the Harenon male also runs one of the premier quick service courier businesses in Novandria.

Guild Structure and Ranks

Apprentice: As stated in the Eisen guild charter   Journeyer: As stated in the Eisen guild charter - As a journeyer, a member of the guild should declare their occupation as either messenger/courier or journalist   Master: As stated in the Eisen guild charter   Mastery Exam: For journalists, the master exam involves a submission of journalistic works. For couriers and messengers, the submission is more organizational and proves that one could arrange urgent messages with ease in the chosen guild-members city.

Culture

The Order runs with a sense of strict decorum, particularly under the hand of Bekken. Devoted to integrity and honesty in all things, the ranks of the guild are respected internally and any member showing that they may be trying to deviate from the ideals of the guild is summarily removed. Bekken tolerates -numerous- different opinions but he will not tolerate dishonesty. There’s even a few masters who’ve been removed because they decided profit was better than truth.   The guild also makes a strong effort to balance the needs of its journalists with the needs of couriers and messengers who tend to need more pay and safety protections than their newspeople counterparts. As such, one member of the guild leadership is always a messenger or courier.   Patron God: Athesne

Guild Symbols

While in formal guild functions, the ranks all wear an armband (white for apprentices, gray for journeyers, and black for masters), most of the guild does not advertise their rank structure to outsiders.

Guild House Description

The Order’s guildhouse is located on Guildhouse row, a relatively non descript brownstone style building. The interior is mostly full of small offices for writing, and a large map room wherein Pippen helps couriers and messengers determine the best routes for tasks.

Public Agenda

The Order works with all major news outlets in Novandria to ensure journalistic integrity. There -are- some smaller rag papers that don’t hire guild journalists but these are scandal sheets and tabloids at best.   The messenger and courier side of the guild works with several courier companies but also works to ensure fair pay for couriers and arrange more complex out of city and out of country deliveries.

Assets

Not precisely cash-rich, the Order makes up for a lack of monetary assets by knowing everything and everyone. Second only to the Bardic and Confidantes guilds for rumors and information on the current state of Eisen, the guild uses its information to leverage funds as needed.

History

Up until the early 1800’s the guild did not include couriers and messengers. However, in 1819, the couriers and messengers of Novandria went on strike for better pay and working conditions. The then-journalists guild realized that the delivery of their papers was deeply impacted and voted to incorporate the messengers and couriers into their guild structure.
