“Every act of creation is first an act of destruction.”
Created History
The Created do not have a common history. In most cases their history is magic or science being used to create them or bring them back to life.
The majority of the Dhampir are created due to the interaction of a Vampire and a mortal. Most often the mortal is a human.
Reborn are individuals who have died, yet somehow still live. This may be due to having been brought back to life through magic or science, or simply an act of will to step back among the living. Some reborn are not a single individual but rather a being that has been stitched together.
Simic Hybrids are created generally by experiments that have gone wrong or the results of a hybrid research. They can take many forms based on what their creator had in mind.
The first vampire was born a warrior who was unwilling to give up on the battle they died in. Elowyn granted their wish and returned her to life. With new power in her veins she devastated the foes that had brought about their first death. At the end of the battle she reveled in their blood, and Elowyn sealed their powers for a moment, bringing on their thirst. Akmon upon seeing this declared that they must die and started burning them with the light of the sun, driving them underground. Since then other Undead have come into existence, but Vampires were the first.
The history of Warforged is a mystery, even to the Warforged. Charles Darwin, a Warforged, theorized in his paper “On Origin of Species” that the Warforged had some connection to the Astral Sea, but his theory was never proven. What was proven is that the Warforged have souls and are living, just the same as any other race, and that their bodies, and new Warforged, are created through secret techniques passed down from Warforged to Warforged and known only to themselves. Historically, the first Warforged known to exist were found in stasis within the ruins of Avalon’s capital with no memory of how or when they were created. Since then, other caches have been found around Europa.
Created Culture
The Warforged semi-regularly hosted a swap meet. This initially stated informally between a few Warforged who were needing parts and encountering problems getting them. But it drew the attention of members of other races who saw the opportunity to locate things they couldn’t find otherwise. Over time, this has spread to several cities in Eisen. The one rule is nothing may be sold, everything must either be traded for equal value parts or favors owed to avoid problems with taxes and other civil requirements. Though frowned upon, some people instead offer IOU and pay for the goods later away from the swap meet.
Periodically, a representative of the Summerlands will make the journey to Eisen to meet with its nobles. This is generally due to trade agreements in place. Each time they do, the night they leave they hold a ball called “Ultima Oscula Vale”, the last kiss goodbye. The party is always a beautiful and stately affair, with a second far darker and hedonistic party happening behind closed doors.
Beliefs
The created have no central belief. Each finds their own gods to worship in time.
Created in Eisen
By law, Created and Undead Races, such as Reborn, Vampire, and Warforged are not recognized as citizens. They are considered people, and welcome like any other into the city, but are considered foreigners for legal purposes. Each of them generally have different reactions based upon what society level they are among, and how visible their nature is.
The Dhampir are generally able to pass among people without too much notice, and unless someone realizes they are Dhampir they are unlikely to have issues. There is a stigma among the high society against Dhampir because it’s commonly believed that most Dhampir are illegitimate children.
Because of the visible signs of their return to life, Reborn often find more scrutiny than other Created beings. This doesn’t always mean negative reaction, but does mean they are likely to have a strong reaction in most cases. Among the nobles they are generally frowned upon, but commoners leave them alone.
The reaction to the Simic depends upon their form. Those that are very humanoid generally don’t have much issue. They are often considered novelties.
While some people unfamiliar with them will assume a Warforged is simply an advanced golem, a Warforged will quickly correct that view with their behavior. A Warforge’s unique mix of organic, metallic, and mineral parts is obvious at first glance, and no golem is as smart and creative as a Warforged. In Eisen, Warforged will commonly work in factories or as assistants working with Eletech.
Created in Other Countries
Most Created are treated as foreigners in the
Kingdom of Avalon unless they show strong magical talent. Those with magical talent can rise in ranks but often find a ceiling to which they can’t pass due to biases. The undead in particular encounter issues due to the strong following of Akmon by the nobles. In some parts of Avalon, it’s unsafe for Undead to walk alone.
In
Castille most Created are welcome but treated as Foreigners. The Undead however must seek a special visa to travel in Castille. Such can be acquired for a small price and is fairly easy to acquire, but does require any undead to register.
The Free Republic of Montaigne has perhaps the largest population created outside of the Summerlands. Though they can not be citizens, the created are welcome within the country. The Vampire in particular finds a place in the more hedonistic locations. Ka Nazev, a Dhampir pirate, is particularly famous for her skill at handling a ship, and her willingness to hunt other ships for the right price.
Most of the created are welcome as Foreigners in
Patlov but receive a cold welcome. The exception is the Warforged. Several Warforged have been born in Patlov and their skills have won them respect. For the last few decades, there has been a strong push for them to be given citizenship. At Winter Court in 1882, Queen Elzbieta, who is particularly fond of them, granted them probationary citizenship to be reviewed each year at the Winter Court. Her Warforged gardener, a friend of her grandfather, was the first to be granted citizenship.
In
Ruskovich, the created often find it hard to live due to the racial segregation. Visitors are generally tolerated, however, those attempting to put down roots often are encouraged to find a place where others of their kind may be.
In all of the world, the
Summerlands is the one place where the majority of the Created can find a place to live and easily gain citizenship. Generally, only the Warforged have any trouble with gaining citizenship as many of the Vampire Lords don’t trust their kind. Almost all Vampires are nobles or high ranking servants of nobles.
Vesten is willing to give any Created who can prove their worth a chance at citizenship. But they must not only prove their value, but also find a Clan willing to vouch for them. Though there are some Created who are citizens, they are very rare.
Much of the
Vodacce dislike the Undead Created due to their legends about such beings. They are generally allowed access to the country but, to date, any attempts at gaining citizenship have been forcefully denied.
