Ogre

Often erroneously referred to as Oni, Ogres are a race of Demi-humans who inhabit both the material plane of Hokkai, as well as its realm of darkness, Jigoku. The ogres are one of the two observed species whom the taint of Jigoku does not outright kill, but rather twist and corrupt. Because of this, ogres are one of the few species who can travel back and forth between the realm of darkness and the material plane, so long as a doorway exists between the two. However, ogres see the corruption of Jigoku not as a curse but a blessing, making them stronger and fiercer. The result of Jigoku's corruption on an ogre can indeed be called an oni, but not all ogres are thus corrupted.   However, most ogres are what would be considered evil: the lands they inhabit, be they Jigoku or the material plane, are not hospitable places, and so ogres have become brutish and calloused in order to defend themselves- either from the demonic forces of Jigoku, or the superstitious people of Hokkai. Ogres love the taste of human flesh, and it is this trait which causes people to view them as monsters. They have long plagued the people of Hokkai in isolated incidents throughout its history, but in recent months, the dark sorcery used in The Laozi Invasion has caused their numbers to swell.   Legends tell of a land beyond the borders of Hokkai where ogres originate, but no Hokkaidan scholar has dared to investigate these rumors in any serious capacity.
