Kapran Moor

Quint tumbled over his own feet, scraping his shoulder against one of the rotten trees, which began to groan under the impact. The boy caught himself and kept running. His feet landed precisely on roots that inspired confidence before he pushed himself off them again and continued on his way. Navigating the moor was already difficult under normal circumstances, but with pursuers breathing down his neck, any misstep could spell his doom in two ways.

An icy feeling ran through his limbs. Now of all times, almost simultaneously with this thought, a howl began, the sound of increasing gusts of wind beginning to whip between the branches and the boggy ground. The wind almost hit Quint in the face like a fist, an icy storm that didn't really want to fit in with the surroundings. Only moments later, the first traces of frost appeared on the low-hanging leaves and the dark brown wood.

The temperature dropped noticeably, enough that Quint's body began to shiver despite his frantic sprint and he had to pull his makeshift clothes tighter around him. His breath rose in front of him, immediately punctuated by his body as he placed a hand on his grimoire, which continued to emit an encouraging heat.

"There he is." a voice bellowed behind Quint, shaking him far more than the temperature. They had caught up to him, and much faster than expected. Inwardly, he cursed himself and the biting wind around him.

Kapran Moor refers to an area adjacent to Warnia, the royal woodlands. The moor is known for its supernatural connection to three Nature springs, which causes highly fluctuating weather conditions and changes in the environment.

General

Kapran Moor is located in the northeast of Warnial and covers an area of about 107sqm². Two Elia can be found immediately below the Kapran Moor, whose nature energy mix regularly and produce extraordinary natural phenomena, which is further enhanced by the presence of a mitrii in the immediate vicinity of the moor. About 30% of the bog is currently used for agricultural purposes and several settlements are found along its foothills. Most of these settlements are protected by the Legions of thunder. The deeper areas of the moor in particular are feared by the rural population and are the subject of legends and old wives' tales.

Natural springs

The supernatural structure of the moor is of an extraordinary nature. Beneath the bog itself are two Elia, the weakest of the natural springs. These are particularly filled with aspects of water and nature, which is responsible for the general structure of the area as a moor. In both cases, however, these aspects are secondary compared to their main element. In the case of the first Elia, it is primarily imbued with natural energy of the wind type. In combination with the aspects of the water, this creates ice-cold winds that freeze the moor from time to time.

The second Elia, on the other hand, is primarily imbued with the aspects of fire. This causes the bog to boil in some cases, with red-hot bubbles regularly rising within the bog, which burst into flames on contact. However, the truly extreme influences on the bog come from the mitrii, which lies to the northwest and also borders Warnial. This is equipped with immense influences from aspects of nature and regularly emits huge streams of energy that permeate the moor and restructure it accordingly.

In such a case, the entire shape of the moor changes, the trees change their position, sometimes growing meters wide and new plants and areas shoot up from the ground. On average, such upheavals can be expected at least three times a year, even if they generally occur irregularly.

Agriculture

The supernatural conditions of the moor may suggest that the area is not suitable for agriculture, but quite the opposite is true. The fertile soils produce the regionally famous black night potatoes. Hemp is also grown in the area, as well as various types of rice, which are cultivated in artificial trenches. Although these forms of agriculture require special precautions, such as covering the plants during abrupt cold snaps, much of this work has been reduced in recent decades since the human inhabitants have increasingly opted for cooperative coexistence with other races, such as the elves.

Night potato
A black potato with gray to white sprouts that takes 85 to 110 days to grow. The potatoes reach a diameter of up to four centimeters. Their skin is completely black in color, which gives them their name. They are known for their sweet taste and are mostly used for stews or cooked whole. Throughout the area, potatoes are valued as a regional commodity and even in the smallest villages, annual celebrations are held in honor of the potato.

Bentrice
A type of rice common between Lithania and the adjacent neutral zone, which is characterized by its crooked shape. The individual grains of rice are usually no more than one centimeter long and are very firm to the bite. They are often used in dishes with a creamy consistency.

Weather bells
So-called weather bells hang everywhere in the Karpan Moor, especially in those places where the effects of the first Elia are felt first. Triggered by the strong winds, the bells make a resounding sound that echoes through the moor and can also be heard in the nearby villages. This sound from hundreds of bells is the signal for the farmers to hide their crops under the heavy protective blankets until the cold and the ringing has subsided.

Legends

If one looks at the legends of the inhabitants, these stories usually include various creatures and monstrosities that are responsible for the changeable weather conditions of the moor, as well as monsters that drag lost wanderers into the depths. Most of these stories serve as simple-minded explanations for the disappearance of loved ones or as warnings to young children. Occasionally these stories also reflect actual encounters with mutations that have emerged from the supernatural composition of the bog, but the stories that have a common core are particularly interesting.

These legends tell of wanderers who have disappeared, monsters in the undergrowth and ghostly apparitions, and all these stories end up in front of a white door in the middle of the forest. A beautiful structure with two white pillars at its side, its rune-decorated gates begin to glow, revealing a view of...

A beating heart at my feet. It pulsates, it beats, it breathes. In the rhythm of hundreds of hearts, synchronized to my feet. And this tree. This tree on the horizon that almost looks like a drawing. I can see it in the distance, with its immaculate white bark. Its white bark. Its white bark. And the blood. The red blood. The red blood dripping from its leaves.
