The Shattered Islands

Ecran is a group of islands once called Devos, created centuries ago. Within the continent are the countries of Ecra and Riku No Sora. The rest of the landmasses are either uninhabited, or host no formal government. For the most of the world, it is recognized that Ecran, and the other three continents, were created by the Sovereign Gods, who have since disappeared and left the various continents in the hands of other deities. Riku No Sora and the general region are watched over by the Tabaxi gods, Ecra itself has no governing deity, so many races worship the god that their race worships, such as Gruumsh or Baervan Wildwanderer.

Geography

Ecran is a collection of islands with two dominant climate types. Southern Ecran is far more tropical, with dense rain and monsoon forests, and humid temperatures. Northern Ecran is made up of grasslands with rolling hills and sparse temperate forests. Among these biomes are rivers and gullies that carve the land into separated chunks, forming natural borders and islands.
The continent lies in both the South Savanach Ocean and the Hurez Ocean. Smaller bodies of water include the Enchanted Sea and the Rakasi Waters.

Fauna & Flora

Northern Ecran

The abundance of grass for food, coupled with the lack of shelter from predators, produces swiftly-moving, herbivorous ungulates: bison, buffalo, deer, wild boar, and horses. Predators include lynx, coyotes, and foxes. It is also home to common rodents (rats, mice, gophers, etc.) and birds (robins, hawks, falcons, etc). The level grasslands closer to civilization supply corn, wheat, and other grains, and the hillier areas support domesticated ungulates: cattle and sheep.
Grasses dominate the temperate grasslands of Northern Ecran. There are many species of grasses that live in this biome, including, purple needlegrass, wild oats, foxtail, ryegrass, and buffalo grass. Popular flowers include asters, blazing stars, goldenrods, sunflowers, clovers, and wild indigos. The sparse temperate forests house hardwood trees (e.g., beech, maple, oak, hickory)

Southern Ecran

A common characteristic found among mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians, is an adaptation to living in trees. Monkeys apes and chimps are the dominate species in the Western Islands of Ecran, and their populations grow rapidly due to the lack of humanoid civilization. Big cats roam the Eastern Islands, and keep the unique ungulate population in lower numbers. Examples of the predatory big cats include: lions, tigers, and panthers. The ungulates include: gaur, and muntjac. There are hundreds of unique and colorful reptiles, birds, rodents, and amphibians.
The trees are very tall and of a great variety of species. One rarely finds two trees of the same species growing close to one another. The vegetation is so dense that little light reaches the forest floor. The branches of the trees are festooned with vines and epiphytes. This environment makes for poor farmland, due to the leaching of the soil's minerals by the rain, and the lack of sunlight.

Natural Resources

Northern Ecran's rolling hills are filled with sheep and cattle. The fields of this land produce crops better than most other places in the world, and farming is the most common profession amongst all races in this part of the continent. It's temperate forests are used for wood in buildings, but the sparseness of these forests leaves the Ecran humanoid populations with little.
Deforestation would be a major problem in the Northern region, however, the lack of forests has held civilization back, and large amounts of wood are not used in building. Minerals of moderate value can be found dotted around the Northern region as well.
Southern Ecran's dense rain forests provide rich fruits and healing plants to it's population. It's wood is used in construction of Tabaxi tree huts and it's cocoa beans are a popular export. Some suspect there are untapped veins of rare minerals and metals among the islands of Southern Ecran. It's most scarce resource is cattle, as the predator population is high. Attempts to breed cattle are moderately successful, but the demand outweighs the supply.
