Darleen Bon

Darleen Bon was the wife of a powerful Piccish King who was forced to submit to the Cyrillians in 92BF. The king pledged allegiance to the Emperor but was betrayed and the tribe was laid to waste. Darleen managed to escape along with some loyal retainers. They took to the sea and raided the Alban coast for many years slowly building a name for themselves. Darleen and her followers swore eternal enmity towards the Cyrilians. In 82BF Darleen pulled of her most daring stunt and managed to raid the former capital of the Cyrillian Empire, Cyrilopolis, carrying off most of the city's wealth. Darleen's campaign against Cyrillia lasted her entire life, however she herself was never a ruler outright. However, she was greatly respected by both Garl Vinland and the other Piccish pirates and acted as an informal leader between pirate raiders and the settled states on the continent towards the end of her life. The historical record is unclear as to the date of her death as her crew kept it secret for many years. 

Modern View

Historians typically view Darleen as a powerful pirate, but not more than a footnote in the history of men such as Garl Vinland who are more focused on. The common folk in the North see her as a folk hero who sought to right the wrong of an evil Emperor by stealing from the rich and powerful.
