Adrac'h Desert
I asked the language professer what the Adrac'h Desert translated to, he said it roughly equates to "Bones of the Dead" - apparently the locals have been finding roasting bones since time immemorialThe expansive Adrac'h desert has proved the bane of travelling merchants for generations, the intense heat proving fatal to any traveller who did not sufficiently prepare for the risky journey.
Geography
The Adrac'h is the largest hot desert on Tersupra, covering 7,500,000km², and encompasses several different nations - who form the Kingdoms of Adrac'h. It is mostly comprised of sand seas, areas covered in sand dunes, with several areas of rocky plateaus with little to no vegetation. The area receives near constant sunshine, with diurnal temperates as the area fluctuates between scorching hot days and colder nights. As it is a desert, the Adrac'h receives very little rainfall, averaging around 110mm per year - as expected, the areas of the Adrac'h near the sea receive cooler temperatures and increased rainfall.
The endless plains of sand dunes can make for some incredible sights, assuming you're not dying of hyperthermia. The wind has sculpted areas of the sand into incredible natural landforms, such as the Kutsagan Butte - which functions as a religious site for the local tribes.
Fauna & Flora
There are a multitude of species in the Adrac'h desert that have adapted to the harsh conditions.
The only sapient life that permanently inhabit the area are the Sahmalkin - mole people that live beneath the desert. They have adapted to be capable of digging quickly through the desert, residing in expansive underground cities and rarely interacting with outsiders. It has been noted, however, that the Sahmalkin will quite often rescue travellers who collapse in the desert and take them to their cities for healing. There is a lot of non-sapient life in the desert as well, such as Camels and Lizards that have adapted to the harsh conditions.
Natural Resources
Despite the arid conditions, there are massive reserves of water beneath the desert in the form of aquifers - vast deposits of subterranean water. This water is most commonly used by the Sahmalkin, who access it to supply their cities. There are also several rare minerals beneath the desert, and several Sahmalkin have begun to interact with other countries in an attempt to trade the rare minerals that they are easily capable of accessing.
