Niklas the II, Duke of Winden
The Coward King, The Ruler of Winden, The Bane of Torland, The Merchant King
Some may argue that the way Niklas fights is not the way of honor. However, such people are fools, and those same people are easily bought out with enough coin. Niklas the II rules over the ever proserpous land of Winden, the greatest trade location for the nation of Ashenfeld. It still is the most prosperous province, even during the civil war as now Niklas can pocket more of the wealth for his own land more in the open now. Having risen up through a mixture of marriage and "certain solutions" to pesky rivals, he has ascended to rulership of Winden for the past 40 years. He has since been almost more of a merchant than a Duke, something that has worked against him recently with the raids and pirate activity. Niklas is not a tactian by nature, and as such leaves most of the war to be overseen by the commander of the Kings of the Whale, one Stephen the Kraken. However such a act has made the Knights of the Whale even more politically powerful than other knight legions, and it has become a very real question of who actually rules Winden: Niklas or Stephen?
