A Tragedy Dressed in Prayer

A fairly common book in more religious circles that serves as a lesson of insight, inspiration, and guidance. It goes as follows:   In the realm of Tethys, long after the impacts of The Schism, there lived a woman named Andrea Eltmar. She was a devoted follower of Orun, the god of knowledge, known for his insatiable curiosity and boundless wisdom. Andrea had spent her life in pursuit of understanding, seeking the depths of knowledge hidden in ancient scrolls and whispered legends.   One fateful day, as the sun bathed the world in warm hues, Andrea ventured deep into the heart of the Wistman Wood searching for ruins she believed would provide new insight into what happened during The Age of Malediction. After traveling for over two weeks, she finally came across what appeared to be an altar in near pristine condition. She approached, knelt and sent a prayer to Orun thanking him for his guidance to this place. As she did she heard a voice that sounded as many trying, but failing to speak in unison.
  "Seeker."
She looked towards the voice behind her and saw a swirling sea of colors. Ever shifting, ever moving. It seemed to hum with an excitement and energy unnatural to her eyes. "I am what you seek. I am the Obliss."   Andrea was surprised, her heart quickened. She had expected to find a tablet, or a carved artwork that would provide a hint or a clue to her questions. To hear such words from a creature she had never encountered or heard of before was both thrilling and disconcerting.
"Do you yearn for truths that transcend the boundaries of understanding?"
With trepidation, she nodded, her eyes fixed on the enigmatic creature.   "The knowledge you seek is but a fragment of the infinite," the Obliss continued. "Your god, Orun, is but a single perspective in the tapestry of existence. Embrace the impossibilities that lie beyond your grasp."
As it spoke her vision was flooded. She saw glimpses of the past, present, and future as if through an unclear crystal, fragmented and distorted. Andrea's faith wavered. She had dedicated her life to Orun's teachings, believing that knowledge was the key to enlightenment. Yet, here was an Obliss, a being of undeniable mystery, challenging everything she held dear.   For days and nights, Andrea meditated under the ancient trees, praying to Orun for guidance and pondering the words of the Obliss. Doubt clouded her mind, and she found herself torn between the god she had revered and the revelations of the otherworldly creature.   With a heavy heart, she returned to her fellow devotees in The Inkwell, a Temple of Orun. She shared the tale of the Obliss and its impossible truths, hoping that another follower of the faith might shed light on her conflicted feelings. Instead, her words were met with horrified gasps and accusing glares. The council of the temple deemed her story heretical, an affront to the god of knowledge.   Branded a blasphemer, Andrea was cast out from the temple and her once-beloved community. With a heavy heart, she embarked on a new journey, determined to seek the Obliss once more. For years, she roamed the realm of Tethys, traversing treacherous landscapes and encountering wondrous creatures, all the while searching for the elusive entity that had ignited her crisis of faith.   As the years wore on, Andrea's hair turned silver, and her footsteps grew weary. One day, deep within a cavern bathed in ethereal light, she at last encountered the ever-shifting form of the Obliss once more.   "You return," the Obliss intoned, its presence comforting amidst the unknown.   "I do," Andrea replied, her voice soft yet resolute. "I have wandered, doubted, and questioned. And now, I seek one last piece of wisdom from you."   The Obliss shimmered, its ever-changing form seemingly reflecting the complexity of Andrea's journey. "Knowledge is a mosaic, shaped by the pieces you gather and the questions you dare to ask. Your faith, though tested, has not been in vain. Embrace the uncertainty as a testament to your quest for understanding."   Tears welled in Andrea's eyes, a mix of relief and gratitude. She had sought clarity and closure, and in the presence of the Obliss, she found both. With a heart unburdened, she returned to the world she had once known, no longer shackled by the confines of blind faith.   And as her story spread through the realm of Tethys, whispered among scholars and storytellers, Andrea Eltmar became a symbol of the unyielding pursuit of knowledge, the courage to question, and the acceptance of the impossible. Orun, the god of knowledge, had not abandoned her; he had guided her to the very heart of uncertainty, where wisdom truly flourished.
