City-State of Buckerburg

There are two ruling elders of Buckerburg. Drawn from the populace then serving for ten years, never to serve again. Thus what they have is akin to nobility. Powerful families who the eldership passes through from generation to generation.
Sometime in it’s history human refugees fled to the town, then a small peaceable dwarving village and sparse mining colonies. When this occurred they brought the greater Teutonian conflicts with them. The dwarven craftsmen and the Elders of the time turned their hands towards building defenses. And so Buckerburg Castle came to be. Upon the arrival of the foes army the general, a smart man, sent his scouts in to look at the defenses. When they brought back grave news he sent his second. Then he himself snuck into the town under the cover of darkness to gauge their defenses. What he found was a nigh unassailable position. A perfect castle of the strongest materials and finest masonry, with a network of dwarvish tunnels which would keep it supplied in perpetuity. The general left. Not once has Buckerburg castle ever been challenged…

Since this time the humans and dwarves of Buckerburg have lived peaceably. With the Dwarven Elders in charge and a human mayor below them. Castle Buckerburg is still as perfect as the day it was made. With many travelling to marvel and attempt to recreate the dwarven artistry. However the town has sprawled, the castle at its centre now only a symbol of a battle never fought surrounded by single story dwarven homes which descend down into the earth out of sight below.
