Haosa Cat-horse

Exceptionally large felines with antlers, nocturnal, used as mounts for long treks. Some of them are smart enough to be trained to follow set routes on their own allowing them to be used as messengers on their own.   The most luxurious fur you'll see, but it's not the kind of fur that lasts well when not used by its original owner, and doesn't work well as a shield against the storms.   Most of the haosa are domesticated at this point, with few remaining in the wild. They're absolutely beautiful animals, with luxurious fur and a significant size. This size is probably what has protected them from the Garruw, since they're big enough that it would be difficult for a garruw to hunt a herd on their own. Also due to their speed and strength, it's likely that the muscles would make for poor tasting meat.   They're also probably protected by their nocturnal nature.   When content, they purr loudly enough to be heard over a storm. It's been recognized as a soothing technique for anxious riders as well, with the vibrations helping to calm people. It appears to be a deliberate action on their part, and they're quit intelligent animals.   It's not common for haosa to be ridden with a harness or saddle, unless the rider is particularly experienced. Haosa are trained to be steered by means of taps and pulls on the fur, and their shape is such that a saddle isn't necessary.   Most weinadi prefer to only ride them in instances where speed is required, since their own natural walking stamina makes their own feet a better choice for long trips.
