Chief Archivist of the Library of Chaus
Prompt 14: Somewhere in your world setting describe a title that commands respect from those in the know.
Chief Archivist of the Library of Chaus
The head of the greatest library in all of Thar’kor, a master study of many core subjects covered in the library, overseer of the documenting of the great histories of Thar’kor and an advisor to many powerful people, the Chief Archivist of the Library of Chaus is a seemingly stuffy and boring position, but to those in the know, it is a position that commands tremendous respect and wields surprising power.
The Chief Archivists' position is not only to maintain and grow the knowledge in the Library of Chaus, to recruit and develop appropriate numbers of archivists to facilitate the patronage of the library and develop further scholarly research but due to its immense collection, reputation and it is the trusted source of reliable historic accounts of activities in Thar’kor for over 3,000 years, the position has developed a strong political element as well. As leaders, advisors, and scholarly types from all over Thar’kor flock to Chaus’ Library in search of knowledge they inevitably must rely on the archivist for aid in locating the information they see. For the powerful or the wealthy, this leads them to the Chief Archivist, which gives the title holder an ear to the most powerful people in the realm and a way to influence their knowledge on the topics they are searching for.
It is also the duty of the position to ensure complete, accurate and thorough documentation of historical events and people is kept. This includes the recording of the deeds and doings of the nobles and elites of the world. Many ensure to provide the archivists with a record of their accomplishments, however with so much information most are likely to only receive a brief note of name rank and dates and areas they ruled in, those who want a large mark in the tomes but have little in the way of world-shaking achievements, seek out the Chief Archivist to curry their favour and garner a larger note in the annuals of history. But beware the careless courter who is seeking to gain the Chief Archivist favour, instead incurs their wrath, for not 20 years ago a pompous and self-important archduke made blunderous attempts and will henceforth be known to all of history as “Archduke Henry Fibertus the Flatulent, a corpulent waste of hot air wrapped in ridiculous garments, that cares no more for the safety of the realm, nor the people in his rule, than he does to come up for air when gorging himself with meat and ale like a swine in a trough.”
