Clandestine Operations
For writers eyes only.
The following document lists a wide range of present clandestine operations upon the continent. Such operations come from a number of different sources:- Common people
- Governments
- Guilds
- Rich people
- Divinities
- Operations to legalize and implement normal Slavers Syndicate operations in nations where the syndicate is not welcomed. Activities included espionage, blackmail, propaganda, strong-arming, white washing, and assasination.
- Seeking slaves through illegal means, including kidnapping and strong-arming.
Sprii hunters. There is a small group who hunt and harvest cores from sprii.
Dark mercenaries. The continent has several companies of “dark” mercenaries that are available for hire for clandestine purposes, such as wiping out competing noble families and large-scale thefts.
Impersonators, conmen, and snake-oil salesmen. There are a large number of independent cons who make a living selling falsehoods for personal gain.
Monster-hunter extortionists. Despite the The Ion’cavar's best efforts, there are so-called monster hunters who charge ridiculous fees from vulnerable communities. Some will go so far as to release a monster into the countryside of a community, let it rampage for awhile, sell their services to eliminate the beast, retrap the creature, and then move on to a new community.
Rangalan Chateaus. The typical political maneuvering of the Chateaus and the conniving of Rangal mostly fit into the category of clandestine operations. They almost always have the goal of unseating current powers. These can range from village mayorship, to county heads, to whole nations.
Guardians of Tomorrow imposters. Some individuals within the Guardians operate for other organizations, including wealthy families, governments, and the Slavers Syndicate. They secretly pass along names and locations of promising children.
Assassination of Curath ruler. There is a Nashriam-based group, not government sponsored, attempting to assassinate Curath’s ruler.
Hidden records. To combat a future Literary Purge, a group of select historians are collecting written works and preserving copies in several secret locations around the continent. Also see Divine Spots of Interest (subsection The New Library) for additional reference to some of these secret locations.
Caliharah slaves. An estate holder in Caliharah has circumvented anti-slave rules through a kind of indentured servitude.
Love affairs. Common enough in noble families are love affairs and infidelity in marriages. Secret children and some technically illegitimate heirs exist throughout high society.
Vault seekers. A militant, organized group has been working for several generations to locate and eventually overrun several Torhiv (“Clerk”) Vaults.
Mind control. Several independent groups are researching ways to mass mind control using congruence. Such secret efforts can be found in Nashriam, Curath, and Polyandrium.
Synthoid slaves. A small group located in southeast Curath are attempting to create synthoid husks, attract sparks, animate the husks, and brainwash the newly awakened synthoids into slaves, assassins, and mercinaries. They have yet to be successful in animating a husk but they have many husks waiting.
Purge Contacters. A group of Alium believe that the literary purgers were extraterrestrial. They seek ways to communicate with these mysterious people.
Disease manufacturers (anti-ophidian). A group of humans are attempting to create a disease that will wipe out Ophidian.
Disease manufacturers (anti-cryptum). A group of humans are attempting to create a disease that will wipe out Cryptum.
Disease manufacturers (anti-human). A group in Polyandrium are attempting to create a disease that will wipe out human.
Strigoi army. An elder strigoi is attempting to build an army of base strigoi. It is a LONG process to get enough victims and successfully nurse them through their transformations. To date the elder has a dozen base strigoi who are stable and zealously loyal to her.
