Overview of Major Religions
An Addendum for Writers by Stephanie Gibbs
The Followers of the Twins
Coined by some as the religion for the Everyman, this gratitude-based faith is common just about everywhere, though it is most prominent in Caliharah. The Divinities followed are immortal shape shifting twins who are rumored to roam the continent in the shape of cats.
Eos - Religion of the Harvest
Another common religion in the region of Caliharah, though you can find it heavily practiced in any agricultural area, Eos teaches a devotion to the harvest, practicing different rituals in their life based on the season of the year. Practitioners of Eos follow the Divinity Eosaani, an immortal being who can speak to birds and, through them, performs miracles for her devout followers.
The Dirt
A less prominent religion, though still practiced by many, The Dirt is believed to be an offshoot of Eos. Rather than showing devotion to harvest, the reverence is paid to the soil itself. Meditative prayer is very significant to them and they believe death, and particularly burial, to be sacred.
The Faith
More often known as the Cult in Rowlem, The Faith believes the dogma that humans are the only real race and that all other races are false constructs that must be cleansed from this world. They swear loyalty to the Divinity known as Row, but there is a mild, if unspoken, contention on just who Row is.
The Garshalla
The religion of choice up in the northern island of Zingare. The tribes Garshalla select one from a family of Divinities that are believed to have waged a great war in order to lay claim to the island. Each band characterizes different ways to live the Garshallan life.
The Rangalan Chateaus
- Religion of the Nobility
- “The chosen few”
- Those whose families have “earned the favor” of this Divinity of prosperity
- Some outside of nobility believe that if they follow this religion they can earn favor for their future generations, so while it is predominantly practiced by noble houses, it is not exclusive to them.
Wayfinders: The Call of Exploration
- Religion for the Explorers
- Potentially some pirates as well?
- Popular in Alvania, southern Nashriam, and among any with the calling to explore the great unknown
- Exploration and discovery are the main themes in this belief
- Newness and ‘understanding the unknown’ are explored through Sailing
The Well Devoted
- Well of Souls Centric
- Could have a more monastic church system, while many loosely follow the teaching and beliefs in their everyday life without the strict approach
- Believes you return there
- Reincarnation
- Well suited for philosophers, scholars, or folks who ask the big existential questions
- A good answer for those who might live in fear of the unknown questions death can bring about
Religion of the Alium
- The Religion of the Alium
- Focused primarily on tradition and connecting to their ancestors
- Some extreme believers may have tried to leave the planet to return home, but no records exist of a successful attempt at this time
Mueta Alta - Religion of the Adventurer
- The Religion for the Adventurer!
- Believe strongly that anything is possible if you apply yourself
- “You can do anything you set your mind to!”
- “If you can, you should”
- These beliefs can be misconstrued and spun to reflect a “take what you want” mentality
- Perhaps these teachings have created a negative spin-off that many bandits follow?
