Overview of Other Congruence Classes

Semantics: The action of using congruence is called “casting.” A general term for a congruence user is “adept” or “congruence user.” When referring to an adept who is casting, they may be referred to as a “caster.”

Vox - A specialist in political strategy, spy-mastery, propaganda, or public relations. Someone with unique abilities to understand and manipulate groups of people. Abilities would involve the use of congruence to read emotions and temperaments. They could be extended to mental/emotional manipulation or could be used to channel targeted messaging for more mundane manipulation, such as the press, speeches, targeted discipline, etc. A vox is a riler or soother of emotions. This person could also specialize as a therapist.

Renamer: Renamers are able to rename thoughts, and directly influence a person’s ability to think. This can lead to complete sensory deprivation, brain death, or total domination of the body and its functions. A well trained Renamer can walk into the best guarded castle, assassinate the king in front of every guard, and leave without a trace.

Surger - A specialist in fluids, including both air and water. Alvania makes heavy use of Surgers to manipulate currents and wind for maritime purposes. The rumored Vas’tek “oasis builders” are also Surgers with some overlap with Terramancers due to the handling of fluid within the earth.

Subsurger - A subclass of Surger with a focus on underwater abilities, including breathing and moving under water.

Bridler - A specialist in animal handling and taming.

Chronicler - A specialist in memory and recordkeeping. Abilities usually start with incredible memory. Chroniclers can learn to mentally relay memories to another (physical contact required). Chroniclers will often study as beginner Creationists to three-dimensionally manifest memories and knowledge. Chroniclers are heavily recruited as chief clerks, senachals, spy-masters, and military strategists. Chroniclers also make exceptional investigators and detectives.

Diviner - A subclass of Chronicler that focuses on predictions of the future. The ability is reliant upon information and deduction; it does not rely on actually seeing the future. (think Sherlock Holmes)

Seer: Seers use congruence to envision situations outside of their normal perception. Whether this is in the past, present, or future.

Gifter - A fairly rare class that gives others abilities/enhancements for a short time but has no special ability themself. Such gifted abilities are typically limited to enhancing normal abilities, such as strength, speed, agility, intellect, and memory. Master gifters (extremely rare) can provide supernatural abilities for a short time, such as force blasts, minor healing abilities, etc.

Forger - A specialist in crafting items with enhanced properties (during the creation process). Such properties could be unique strength, extreme sharpness, exceptional pliability, unmatched friction reduction, etc.

Alchemist - Alchemists are interested in conversion of one function to another, and are oftentimes notable chemists/biologists. They most commonly transfer the properties of one material into another, and are general all-rounders of magic. For instance, if an evoker casts a fog cloud, the alchemist would be able to do the same, but by redistributing certain properties of the water in the air, or by swapping a property with something that produces the same amount of vapors. This makes their congruence usage-to-knowledge a very steep bell curve. However, they are also able to cast spells with secondary effects that occur from the properties they are abusing being changed. The alchemist casting fog cloud could, for example, be sucking the heat from the air and vacuum cooling it, causing an explosion at the same time.

Medic - A specialist in curing physical injuries and illnesses.

Traveler - Able to will themself short distances within sight. Travelers make exceptional messengers (and deadly assassins).

Flux - A martial arts specialist who channels congruence flows through precise movement, which provides augmented fighting abilities in speed and power. Flux are capable of bursts of immediate-range force. Weapons use interferes with these flows; flux must fight without weapons to gain their augmentations.

Obscurus - A specialist in light and shadow manipulation. Light and shadow can both be used to hide or deflect attention. This class is popular for assassins and other stealth operators for obvious reasons. Note: Master assassins will train in multiple specializations: Obscurus for hiding and sneaking, Vox for deflecting attention and suspicion, and some type of martial class. Assassins with natural adeptness in another area, such as as a Traveler will often cross-train in Obscurus.

Grower - A specialist in plant-based congruence use. Growers can be found in rural settings for agricultural purposes or in metropolitan settings as master gardeners in noble households. Growers embrace plants’ natural desire to grow and be beautiful by channeling rich congruence flows to the plants. Grower abilities have limited combat use.

Evoker - A specialist in creating spells with definite effects. They work with materials and elements that don’t exist to create short-acting impactful effects. They are a blast wizard (fireballs, ice walls, fogs, and the like fall under here).

Illusionist - The illusionist shares certain traits with the evoker, but while their focus lies on creating impactful moments, an illusionist relies on creating belief. Illusionists create a perception of an effect, rather than an actual effect.

Smothered Adept - Any class of congruence user whose abilities are inhibited, usually from emotional or traumatic stress. (recognized as “smothered” to indicate the ability exists but is merely inaccessible, as opposed to “broken” or “cracked”).
