The Well of Souls

A Collection of Thoughts from Illona Torok

The question of what waits for us after we draw our last breath is one that nearly every person has pondered in some form of another. To some, it’s another life awaiting them elsewhere; to others, it’s a vast silence. Many folks tend to lean toward some sort of ideology that there is somewhere your soul ventures to once it’s time on Aropria has come to an end. This very place that folks wander to after their death is called many things, but one religious sect coined it as the Well of Souls, and most of us without another set doctrine tend to call it by that same name.

The Well of Souls provides its comfort as that place calling to you once your time on Aropria comes to an end, and it serves as whatever you need it to be. It can be warm and comforting, like a hug from a loved one that you’ve waited far too long to receive; still and quiet, allowing a restless soul a final place to rest; or even like a banquet of all the people you knew you’d see again when the time came. The Well of Souls is everything that folks need it to be, and in that regard, it is known to all.

The one factor about the Well of Souls that seems to elude the masses is the truth of it. The Well itself is shrouded in speculation, and you’ll often hear a different answer from each person you ask. Some folks will even tell you that they know where it is on the continent, and I’m sure plenty of spiritual quests have searched far and wide for its whereabouts, but some also argue that the Well of Souls is for souls alone, and those walking among Aropria shouldn’t encroach. While there’s a small part of me that would love to behold the beauty of it as I live and breathe, I find that when I really think about it, I agree with the latter belief. After all, once my soul is ready to go to the well, I’m sure I’ll have all the time in the world to enjoy its splendor.

FOR WRITERS ONLY

Illona is an incredibly spiritual woman, and has done her best to gather any information she could on her travels, but found it a tad difficult to really get a grasp on the whole story. After all, something so personal and shrouded in mystery isn’t exactly easy to get a solid hold on. For our reference on the ‘truth’ for the Well of Souls, please look to the following

  • The Well of Souls is a gathering point in another plane of existence
    • This gathering point is where souls come from & where they go a lot of the time
    • But not always…
    • It is a non corporeal place
      • Not in the physical universe
      • It is, however, intrinsically attached to Earth (The well of souls FOR earth)
  • Every single non-Divinity sapient race originates from the well of souls (their soul that is)
    • The Well does not discriminate for race, a soul from the well could inhabit any available body on the continent
  • There is a Divinity that looks after the Well of Souls
    • The Divinity is also non corporeal
      • They might (under very specific circumstances) have a body in order to interact with individuals accustomed to the physical universe, but that’s not the norm, in fact it’s very unlikely
    • This Divinity’s tasks of protecting the well includes the following:
      • “Resetting” souls
        • Strips prior memories before reincarnation
        • Stores all memories in a non corporeal memory bank
          • Their way of monitoring the world
          • They can’t directly look out/reach out to change the world, except in their own system of soul collection
          • They are very curious about the outside world so are interested to collect the memories of learned/traveled individuals
        • There is a rare chance that some traits that are allowed to carry on
          • Perhaps some things that slip through the cracks
          • Memories, etc. These would manifest as small moments of deja vu, or having an uncanny familiarity with a place which this person has never been before, since their soul has the memory to hold on to from another life
          • Even more rarely this could manifest as knowledge or skills from the previous life
      • Allow souls to leave when there is a body ready for them
        • Won’t just allow millions of souls to roam the {earth} at any time
      • This Divinity also has Non sapient servants (automatons) that facilitate in the care of the well/act as their agents
      • Might have relationships with other keepers of souls (on other planets, etc)
        • Every major population throughout the galaxy has its own well and keeper
