Background
As far as you know, you've always been on the streets. You can't remember your parents, but you do remember Lizen Nitidus, who gave you both a home and a name.
She's often told you about how you wandered into her house and refused to leave until you fed her. And how you wandered back out to the streets when your stomach was full. She wanted to adopt you, but she's told you that you had other ideas. You seemed to prefer the freedom of the streets where you'd also been taken in by a group of orphans who took care of each other.

But Lizen made a room for you, always in the hope that you'd come to stay one day. She made it clear that it was your room and your room alone and that it will be there for as long as you want it. She was never your mother--you don't have a mother, as far as you know--but she did become a guardian of sorts.
Her guardianship several times kept you from being expelled from the city of Qi in the occasional sweeps of the city's homeless that caused everyone without a home to be expelled from the city.
As you got older, Lizen arranged work for you. She's respected your independence and only gotten you short-term work, though she also offered to find you an apprenticeship until you grew too old for for it. But the freedom of the streets called to you more than the security of a trade. You found it easy to meet people and discovered a talent for connecting people who could help each other. You found your own sort of apprenticeship when you met a jack named Obar Shessin who offered to teach you what he knew.

Lizen does have a daughter of her own, a nano named Zaida. Lizen, herself a nano, has great hope for her daughter. You and Zaida have always gotten along in the past, mostly because you've had little contact. Zaida was always doing nano training at her mother's insistence.

Zaida has joined a group of nanos who are hunting for numenera along the Wandering Walk. Lizen has asked you to help keep Zaida safe, since she doesn't have the experience dealing with people that you have.
