Aepine Noire

Aepine Noire is a style of design and architecture that is quite grand and imposing and known for its ornate elements that are carefully organized and arranged. Large buildings and structures with an Aepine Noire style are designed to impress and awe, with high walls and thin towers that seem to rise up into the clouds. This type of architecture is ancient, but in the current age, it is hardly applied anymore in the construction of buildings.

Imposing Architecture

Buildings with an Aepine Noire architecture typically used dark and smooth materials, such as granite, dark marble and iron. The buildings are adorned with sharp spires and pointed roofs that give them a bit of a sinister and somewhat foreboding appearance. Aepine Noire buildings are recognized by the use of high walls and thin towers. Windows and doors are shaped in a pointed arch and incorporate stained glass The stained glass used in Aepine Noire architecture is characterized by its deep and saturated colors and typically feature geometrical patterns and symmetry on one or multiple axis. The use of stained glass in Aepine Noire architecture helps to add some depth and dimension to the buildings, which can be quite dark and ominous.

Ornate yet Orderly

Despite the architecture style being outdated and hardly used anymore, Aepine Noire elements have been used in the design and fabrication of various types of furniture such as desks, cabinets and chairs. This style is favored by many Alchemists for their workshops and laboratories as it is both beautiful and usefel. Even though it can be very ornamental, the symbolism within those ornaments and the overal design is still very structured.   Sculptures and architectural ornaments in the Aepine Noire style are used in some cultures in places like graveyards and crypts, as the style invokes a sense of grief and sorrow. Sculpting in Aepine Noire style does not adhere to strict rules, but the overal sculpture needs to adhere to certain Aepine Noire dimensions and ratios, and the same types of patterns and design elements seen in the architectural style are used to shape parts of the sculpture. Gargoyles, grieving angels, and skulls are a common subject of Aepine Noire style sculptures. The use of these types of sculptures helps to create a sense of solemnity and reverence in the places where they are put, which are often associated with death and loss.
